Hi
Just wanted to know will I make my raynauds worse if I am working regularly in cold conditions that are causing my hands to have painful attacks.
I’m afraid the answer is yes you will make then a lot worse.
Hi Joan
Thank you for your reply. Due husbands business getting a new contract I have been working in cold and washing equipment in cold water. I have noticed that even hours after my hands just don't feel right.
Are you on any medication for your Raynauds? Do you have to do what you do?
No Joan as I have been able to limit triggers up until recently. Yes at the minute I do. I am trying to get good informed advice from people like yourself so that I can make good decisions. I just need to know what are the implications for me working in cold. I know it has an immediate effect and I suppose I just want be better informed on my actions causing more problems.
In my experience the more you expose yourself to triggers the worse the condition gets and the more damage to your fingers hands. Worse case scenario is you can loose some fingers. Don’t mean to scare you.
Again thankyou. I think up to this point I and my husband have just thought that the condition was a minor thing where I had cold hands that went a funny colour and a runny nose. I have now got concerned as it has felt so much worse in such a short time that I thought I need some good advice. I needed the information that you have kindly given. I think I needed to understand the importance of limited triggers. That it is not just a case of getting cold and that things will just go back to normal without consequence.
Hi, I was laid off work last august due to having secondary Raynaud's. I was a windscreen fitter for 20 years but was cut loose with no second thoughts. My 1st attack of Raynaud's was in 2016, after a year and a half, I was laid off under capability grounds. I know it's your husbands business, but I think it's not worth damaging your health for. Sorry of that sounds blunt, not meant to be.
Why would you put yourself through this !! Raynards is painful enough in normal every day circumstances but to work in the wet and cold. I'm sorry. But unless you have no choice, stop doing it. Even if you wear gloves. The pain will get more intense. For the sake of your hands and fingers stop what your doing. Good luck anyway. X
It may just be a few attacks here and there, but after awhile you can get ulcers on your tips of your fingers and worse... they become infected.
Thankyou everyone for your comments. It's strange but I normally would never dream of going onto forums. However, my instinct with my hands was to seek advice and not to ignore my symptoms getting worse. Your blunt words people were actually what I needed to hear. Good information from people who know the implications of my actions. Now I am going off to find a solution to work issue. There is always another way. Great advice from all which I have taken onboard and for which I will always be very very grateful. Sandra
