Notify DVLA of my disability

Hi guys just getting to drive again and I'm wondering do I have to notify DVLA of my systemic scleroderma , I do claim DLA higher component and been told I'm entitled to tax my car for free very confused help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello DKa48,

Yes you do need to notify the DVLA of any medical issues, they will then send you a medical form and a consent letter for you to sign, so they can contact your GP for a medical report. I done it for mine and cleared as ok to drive..

Morning rookley aww great thanks for replying, had systemic scleroderma for 18 months gave up driving but decided to go back on the road this week ill get writing now xxx

Another thing since you are on the high rate of DLA have you looked into getting a car on the Motability Scheme, I have done so and it is great. No car payments, insurance or worries about anything but putting petrol in the car for three years. There is a large choice of cars. They take your DLA payment to pay for the car. It was worth it to me as I needed a car that was an automatic for when I can drive and they tend to be a bit pricey.
