Sleeping problems

Hi!

This is my first time using this website and i am not sure about how it works but i am going to give it a try.

First of all i want to talk about my sleeping disorder, and it started when i was in school i think like 6 years ago, and since then I can't have a proper schedule.

When i try to sleep for example at 12 pm,

I don't fall asleep until it's 5 am, and the next day of course i am really sleepy if i wake up with an alarm. These last 6 years i´ve been sleeping all day in the school, because it is impossible to stay awake, and even if i try my best to change my schedule is imposible because i sleep a lot (between 11 and 15 hours a day) so the next day i hardly slep at all.

Now that I've been 2 years in college, i dont go to the university just because is embarrassing to go and fall asleep or dizzy in class, so this last 2 years I am starting to have headaches and constant dizziness from changing the schedule all the time alternating between being night and day awake.

As an informative fact, say that I have had digestive problems all my life of which currently the most notorious is a hiatal hernia, and sometimes if I try to sleep my breath is cut off and I need to rejoin to catch air, but I wanted to know if someone had a similar problem or do you have any idea how fix it.

Thank you for listening and sorry for my bad english.

Greetings from Spain! :)

Lookup up Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. It's a form of circadian rhythm disorder. Some people adopt a lifestyle around this, work at night so they can sleep during the day and get on with their lives just fine.

But if you want to get back to sleeping at night you do this by doing something called sleep restriction and using melatonin if you can take this. You cannot sleep during the day.

This isnt fixable in a couple of nights, it takes up to 5-6 weeks of completely sticking to the sleep schedule and no day sleeping or napping.

I'd look at seeing a sleep specialist or entering into a CBT-I program for best sucess (helps determine sleep hygiene issues, sleep restriction, help for anxieties and what to do if you cant sleep in the night while sticking yo your sleep schedule). Slerp restriction is very hard to do, you'll probably have less than adequate sleep till your circadian rhythm shifts from day sleeping to night. I have no experience with hiatal hernia, might changing sleep positions using extra pillows so you stay in this position help you sleep better, I'd tell your doctor and see what recommendations he/she can offer.
