Could have a sleeping disorder? Sounds like Delayed Sleep Phase, but of course you would need to be diagnosed by a sleep doctor or someone who is expertised in sleep disorders. They would have you fill out a specified sleep journal which asks you to log many aspects of your day and habitual things that effects your sleep. Melatonin is used for this to advance your sleep onset (meaning go to sleep earlier) in phases till you are sleeping at the desired time, melatonin is not a sleeping medication it’s used to alter sleep onset time. 5 mg is a high dose as well, you only need .3 to 3 mg. You would take it 2-3 hours before you ‘want’ to sleep, not when you go to bed. Light therapy can be used as well.

If you are getting adequate sleep, sometimes this disorder need not correcting unless 1) it affects works and social life 2) you are not sleeping a normal amount, or have side effects like chronic sleepiness and severe impairment.

CBT May be of use to you as well. I use an app called CBT-I Coach for logging my sleep.

I have Advanced Sleep phase the opposite, I’ve had to adopt a very early sleep onset time and I wake early am anywhere from 2-3 am or sometimes earlier than that resulting in inadequate sleep time. My body clock has been broken over a year, my attempts to move sleep out later fails, after 10-14 days I’m sleeping less and impaired severely so I’ve decided to not mess with mine for now.

A diagnosis by a doctor is your best bet (always need to rule out medical reasons or look for other causes) for teaching you how to advance sleep onset, perhaps alter meal timing, use of exercise, use of melatonin properly and light therapy. Good luck.
