I'm 77, I've been on Zopiclone for 5 year's and have sleep deprivation. I've managed to get down to 3.75 mg even though I don't get much sleep, about 1 hour per night. My problem is that I feel drowsy most of the next day, is this usual? I'd like to be off them although, but fear I'd get no sleep at all.

Zopiclone, drowsy during the day?
Hi I've only been on Zopicline about 9 months. My psychiatrist wont stop them as I missed one night was awake all night despite taking other meds, then got awful anxiety the next day. My body has got too used to them. I also take Amitryptiline, clonazepam, mirtazapine and respiridone yet can be awake on and off all night and up at 3 or 4 not sleeping.
I used to take Zopiclone on and off for years and had no trouble stopping just bad sleep for a while then would start to sleep ok but cos I've been on them so long I get awful withdrawal . My psychiatrist said he blames my doctor for prescribing too long. Sorry I'm not much help but that's my story. If you can come off them hopefully eventually your natural sleep will come back.
Hi perhaps it's because I'm on other meds as well as Zopiclone which I've been on for 9 months that when I missed just one night I was awake all night then the next afternoon and evening had terrible head and panic so I stayed on it. You've done well going down slowly and probably when you do stop you wont get any sleep at all. A doctor told me you may not sleep for days but eventually you will again. He never said stopping Zopiclone can cause panic anxiety even seizures but you seem to have just got drowsy in the day probably through lack of sleep?? I envy you if after all those years you can stop and eventually sleep normally again. My psychiatrist told me he blames the doctors for letting me have them so long. Now I'm hooked and due to the bad experience missing just one night im going to stay on them. However I go off to sleep ok but wake every 2 hrs and wide awake by 4 or 5 but I do take clonazepam and two other meds which are slightly sedating. I am 70 and hate taking all these things . My body has become tolerant to them too. I wish you all the best 🙏🙏
