My dermatologist did two biopsies 3 weeks ago, one on my nose and one on my upper lip. I was given the results by telephone a week ago. The doctor told me that both biopsies showed basal cell SARCOMA. I have since been doing some research and it seems that she may have meant CARCINOMA. Are both sarcoma and carcinoma types of basal cell cancer? It is very difficult to reach my doctor. I have been referred to a plastic surgeon for treatment.

Hi Exbury1905. Sorry to hear that you have had biopsies. From my experience of basal cell cancer (I have had a number of rodent ulcers removed over the years and am on 6 month review ongoing) I would say that your doctor has confirmed that the biopsies identified a basal cell condition. Carcinoma is different. I tend to think of skin cancer in an escalating scale with basal at the bottom (non invasive, slow growing), squamous in the middle and carcinoma at the top (the most concerning and potentially invasive). If you are worried though please please go back to your doctor for clarification x
