The last time I had conjunctivitis it lasted for over two months. I tried the normal eye drop treatment from my GP and it was like it was burning out my eyes so I went to my opthamologist who said that conjunctivitis doesn't need to be treated. There is only a very rare 2 or 3 pathogens that can do you any harm and the eye's natural defences will take care of it. He also rolled his eyes at me like i was full of it when i told him i this bout of conjuntivitis had already lasted weeks. Walking out of his office I thought, does he mean the natural defences that are found in tears which he diagnosed me as not having?
Eventually I got rid of the conjunctivitis with saline rinses every thirty minutes or so between my normal Bion Tears about every two hours. It is pretty painful.
My son has got conjunctivitis again and now I have got it.
Does anyone have an idea of how to treat it when you have server dry eyes?

This lady gives a demonstration of how to use cold-pressed castor oil as eye drops. I've stopped using regular eye drops now that I've tried this. One drop in each eye before I go to bed at night does the trick. The first thing I do in the morning is to clear any gunk from the lower lid. I also make sure my castor oil is organic and hexane free.
organic black tea bags, let them cool down put them on your eyes for 10 mins then squeeze the tea into your eyes 3 times a day for 2 or 3 days. it fixed mine.
I have been told to use baby shampoo - 1 drop- I put this in a cup/ mug of warm water. Then using a paper kitchen towel I tear it into 4 strips length ways - easier to tear this way. 2 each for each eye.
I use one and soak in water squeeze out excess- and clean the eyelashes,
2: the dry one I use to dry the eyelashes again . I repeat on the other eye.
If needed repeat -helps to aid recovery but use this method on a regular basis and touch wood-- I keep the problem at bay.
I now use eye drops that are free from additives as it irritated my eyes so much- painful to use them.
The drops are called : Celluvisc are you able to get them in Australia as I am in the UK? Single use packet of 30 individual eye drops last one day- 3 x per day.
