Nocturia - Do you have it ?

This past week, a survey was published in the US about #nocturia. The data was alarming, in that the number of people with it is huge AND that most people don't think anything can be done about it, so they haven't even mentioned it to their doctor. It also affects every age group.

There's a lot that can be done about nocturia, depending on its cause. It is not a normal part of aging, and it needs to be discussed with a physician or healthcare professional who will listen and work with you on finding the cause and then help you get the sleep at night that everyone needs.

Nocturia is when you need to get up at night, more than once, to urgently get to the bathroom. Some people are getting up many times a night, losing valuable sleep, waking up their partners as well, and finding it difficult to function the next day.

Nocturia also puts us in harm's way because we are more likely to fall at night (we are groggy, we probably don't turn lights on, and we may be hurrying too quickly to get to the bathroom).

If you have nocturia, please speak to your doctor or healthcare provider about what you are experiencing at night. There is help for this condition!

Hi the cause of it can be so so many things though because everything filters back to the bladder plus the workings above like spine issues its a bit like a tree the bladder being the base so the further up the tree you go the more branchs are connected.

You are so right. There as so many things that can cause this - but old age is not one of them! That's why it's important to take a serious look at what the causes might be, figure that out, and then work on a fix.

Were a sum of parts just like a cake and get the ingredients wrong on a cake and it won't turn out right!

Hormones,Vitamins&Enzymes play a big part in it because there what makes us go there the the things that make us what we are and make everything function as a muscle or a bone don't do anything without these things to make it work/react.

But there over looked when dealing with peoples issue's!

but as we age we collect all this crap like luggage just like knowledge and experience.

Hormones can play a big role in nocturia if the cause is nocturnal polyuria.

Yes, we need to look at the WHOLE picture of what's going on in each person's body to determine the best course of action.

My problem is that I do not wake up while sleeping when my bladder is full. I'll often have a dream of finding a bathroom and using it, then when I wake up in the morning my diaper is soaked. This happens to me randomly between 5-15 times a month so I have to wear protection every night. I honestly think wearing protection to bed (and using it while asleep) is better for me than interrupted sleep. Especially true for me since if I wake up in the middle of the night I find it almost impossible to get back to sleep. I have daytime incontinence issues also (due to BPH) so at least having to wear at night isn't that big of deal.

It's very hard to fall back asleep after cleaning up a bowel movement and changing.

Yes, that would be difficult. Nocturia, just to be clear, is only the need to get up to walk to the bathroom more than twice a night. Nocturia doesn't include incontinence ... it's just the need to get up multiple times because typically the bladder is over-producing urine at night. You can have nocturia and no incontinence. However, many people do have incontinence AND nocturia.
