How long did it take for you to feel confident?

For those who wear diapers or nappies I would like to know how long it took for you to feel confident wearing them. I’ve been wearing for a couple of years now and still feel insecure or worried that people will find out, or that I may need to have an uncomfortable conversation with friends, family or colleagues.

Oddly the people I have talked to about it have been respectful and supportive. So why is it still so scary if people find out?

I’ve been wearing some kind of diaper to manage my incontinence for well over a decade now, and it hasn’t always been easy. It’s only been within the last few years that I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t care as much, and just try to live my life. While I do try to be as discreet as I can , and limit who I tell about my incontinence, I don’t always stress about someone finding out, but there is a part of me that dreads having anyone find out. I think that a part of the reason as to why it is so scary to have anyone find out is because of the stigma that is attached to diapers and incontinence. From a young age many of us were taught that only babies wear diapers, and many of us were shamed and bullied for having accidents. So it’s only natural for us to be fearful of how others might react if they were to find out that we were wearing a diaper.

Exactly what you said, is how I feel. I'v been wearing diapers for 10 years now and it took me about 5 to become comfortable. I do still worry about others finding out but at the same time I'm never going to see them again so why care.

I think that’s a great attitude to have. I’m just now starting to get there, but still feel uncomfortable about it at times.

I am still embarrassed about needing to wear these and I have been wearing them for almost a year now. One friend of mine knows I need them, she recommended I get some, but I still feel weird when I have an accident around her too. I think part of it is you grow up peeing in private and now, with urge incontinence, I just pee right then and there with little regard for where I am. Though I do try to get somewhere less private.
