Hi, I'm 20 years old. I have sickle cell disorder. But what bothers me most is that my eyes is always yellow, and it makes me feel shy.
Hello Claregie,
I trust you are keeping well. Please don't feel shy about the colour of your eyes. Unfortunately I doubt there is much you can do about it. I'm 48 and living with sickle cell my eyes has never been white or anything other than yellow. I'm glad you drink a lot of water. The yellowish eyes is due to the level of bilirubin in your body. Bilirubin is a yellowish substance in your blood. It forms after red blood cells break down, and it travels through your liver, gallbladder, and digestive tract before being excreted. Typically, bilirubin levels fall somewhere between 0.3 and 1.2 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). As advised by my hematologist. I guess other warriors on this platform might be able to give some advice but in the meantime keep yourself hydrated by taking enough fluid and stay healthy. Yellowish eyes does not make you less attractive. If you wear glasses make them slightly tinted but don't let it get to you so much. I wear less makeup to reduce attention to my eyes. I wish you a healthy life.
Stay strong warrior!
Hello Claregie, you are not alone in this. Most sickle cell patients have jaundiced eyes as explained by Hazeleyes05.
Sip water slowly, if you rush it and take a high volume, you may feel nauseated. What matters is that you stay hydrated all day long. You may put a dash of lemon or add tea bags and sweeten it. Anything healthy that makes water more palatable to you.
You cant get away from it bud. It's your illness I have the same thing. I dontlisten to anyone, God made us extra special. Embrace all he has blessed you and yes even Sickle Cell out of bad, comes good!
I will suggest sugar cane worked for my daughter when I used it. Stay strong and be positive.
I also have this problem, I've been loading up with folic acid supplements and foods along with brightening eyedrops and water and I've seen drastic improvement, try it! Folic acid isn't harmful so I just stake as much as I want and it's mostly responsible for the white eyes.
