Can somone who has the Thalassemia gene start a family with someone who has the sickle cell trait?

Good Day...I would say get advice from a Hemotologist. I am 54 and was born with SickleBetaThal. I was not diagnosed until my early 20's but that was after countless bouts to the ER for severe pain that could not be explained. I am sure there is more knowledge of SBT now but not much back then. I have severe crisis and I. The hospital at least twice a year. It is not something I would suggest but I would get professional advice first. Hope this helps...feel free to ask me any questions if you feel the need.

Hi, I really don't think you should. I have met a few people with sickle cell and thalassemia who have the same symptoms such as painful crises, infections and hospital stays. Please don't put someone else's life through that. Good luck.

Hi, I have both ...its called sickletha. I have symptoms of both. Painful crisis is nothing to gamble with. Please don't.
