Hello My name is Meggan I have sct was diagnosed at the age of 12 my parents don't carry the gene and I'm not afopted... For over 5months I've been having consistent pain in my left shoulder I can barely raise my arm over my head or do a simple push up without being in agonizing pain... I noticed my knees aching terribly as well... And I haven't had a menstrual flow going on 2 months now... I'm currently switching Drs. due to me feeling like I'm being seen in a drive through and him not taking my concerns seriously... I don't want to keep seeing pain Drs. because the medication although it relieves pain it causes my body to become chemically dependant... idk what to do but read and Google up things so I can discussy concerns with my pcd... As of now I continue dealing with the constant pain...😔

Hi MegganFears123 welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your pain. Firstly, you say you have SCT and that none of your parents carry the gene. That is scientifically impossible as you inherit each gene directly from each parent! Secondly, may I ask what country you live in or had your blood test done? This is because there are certain countries that have a tendency to get blood tests wrong leading to a wrong diagnosis. Thirdly, when you are in pain you should not be worrying about your body being chemically dependent on it especially if you only use the medication for pain and you just don't take it for recreational reasons. Please take your painkillers. You can also research other therapies like meditation. I hope you get the answers you need and some relief from pain. See a doctor about your delayed period. Take care.
Thanks for answering back... I do know that one of my parents have to be a carrier of the gene... I've been reading on Sat since I was diagnosed at the age of 12. Yet and still they both tell me that sickle cell trait never ceases up in their blood work. I asked my dad's pcp if f he can be tested for it and it showed up negative in his labs... So IDK what to say about that. I tried to give blood knowing I'm a carrier of the trait and it was regused because sct came up in my labs. Science can be flawed nothing's perfect. Now in regards to my body being chemically dependant, Die to my pain Dr not being able to accepty insurance any longer and the other Drs I called either weren't accepting new patients at the time or stopped accepting my insurance. When that happened I began suffering from withdraws as well as the pain. I had to find a clinic that could takee through the withdraw process safely because it was affecting my overall health tremendously. I rather deal with the aches and pain rather to suffer through withdraws from pain meds. I took my meds as perscribed. I NEVER TOOK THEM TO GET HIGH. I ONLY TOOK THEM FOR THE CHRONIC PAIN. Trust me the pain is nerve wrecking day and night. I live in the United States where they treat most as addicts and being that our POTUS launched an attack on pain medication due to abuse and deaths due to over dosing they decided to go to war with insurance companies that the lower to middle class use and made it difficult for many who suffer from chronic pain... I was told by my Dr that me having SCT has nothing to do with the extreme pain and fatigue that my body has been suffering from since I was a teen till now... But like I said science is flawed and they assume they have know actual way of knowing unless we bombard them with constant visits of the same complaints... They perform so many test and experiments everyday with genes and dna for all we know this r genes and or dna could've been tampered with. That's my opinion of course. The only thing I can do now is change my diet continue to exercise anx pray that over the counter pain relievers and herbal supplements will help me to deal with this situation.
