I have just been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Trait.Either trait can have the same symptoms of the disease or I have full blown sickle cell anemia. Both sides of my family have Southern European ancestry. Detached retinas run in my dads side.I have week retinas with holes.I have been anemic and had severe pain in my legs and my whole body since I was a kid.I've has stomach issues since birth and am about to have my gallbladder taken out due to both types of stones. My mom had to take my out of PE class as a kid cause I kept getting too overheated and passing out from exersion.Still do it to this day.I've had multiple heat strokes. My pain is at times unbearable.I have very low iron.Noone has ever mention that I could have Sickle cell or that I had trait.I guess because I'm white.Which just shows how ignorant some doctor can be.And in my opinion a little racist because although race Caucasians can have it too. It's not just an African American disease.I need to research this further. And If I do turn out to only have trait I am here to tell you.I have nearly if not absolutely every symptom of the disease.

This does sound more than the trait although people with the trait can definitely have symptoms. There are variations of SC. Are you able to get a second opinion with a hematologist?
