Sickle cell trait pains

I took up doing 5ks at each 5k once completed I would get pains...lots of pain that last for 3 -4 days. First I thought it was shin splints. ..recently my son who also has the trait started to join me in these races what I have notice is that he also gets the exact same problem...I have a 6 yr old who is hbss or full blown..I asked her doctors if people with sickle cell trait can get so much pain and he says no..am confuse anyone else gets pain after exercising? Am I crazy because I do feel the pain. Also when he was younger he used to get lots of pain but was diagnosed as having juvenile arthritis. .the same 6 year old was also diagnosed with it until further test proved otherwise. .I have more questions than answer.

The doctors just don't care about people with trait and are failing us. It is not in your mind the pain is real. Until the study the trait they are failing those with the Disease.

Unfortunately doctors know very little about blood diseases that don't effect primary white people. So if you get pain and the only thing wrong with you is sickle cell trait then that's the cause. There is a pinned post which states that you should get tested for sickle cell variants - currently the 3 to test for are S-Antilles, S-Oman and βS-San Martin.

Also when you do exercise make sure you are not dehydrated. This means a minimum of 12 hours before drink water at frequent intervals making sure your urine is a pale yellow in colour.
