This is a UK based website that is visited by most infrequently so I would be surprised if you get any help.
Dear NJR0107, I live in the DC Metro area also. There are two great clinics in this region of the US. One is at Howard University Sickle Cell Center For information about the Center for Sickle Cell Disease, please call our main line at (202) 865-8284 or send your questions or comments to: sicklecell@howard.edu. Normal office hours are 8:30AM to 5:00PM. (website: huhealthcare.com)
The other is actually in Baltimore. The world class Johns Hospital Center has a walk-in out patient client. Both of these sickle cell clinics treat are networked with doctors accustomed to treating all forms of sickle cell disease including two hemoglobin variants. However, to fellow SCT patients (unlike you) last time I went over 15 years ago they were friendly but unsure how to treat a trait patient, which you are not. They will see you as sickle cell disease patient (SCD) whom they are very accustomed to treating. Best wishes! Let us know how things work out. Also, Dr. Raymond Cuevo in Fairfax is a hematologist who seems dedicated and caring.
Dr. David Smith on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Centreville Google him, his partners last name is Ehrlich.
Hi, I have sickle beta plus thalassemia and was diagnosed in Texas at the Texas oncology clinic by Dr Bibawe. If you can get there maybe he can help or maybe you can call the clinic and ask for a recommendation to aa specialist. It maybe worth a try
