Hi everyone.

As a sickle cell sufferer I want to find out what non edible things you ate or still eat. I used to eat mattress foam and a friend of mine eats toilet roll. I had no idea a lot of sicklers had that problem. Has anyone here had the experience.

Hi Jo,

You have certainly enlightened me, I didn't know this was common in sickle cell. I used to eat tissue and talcum powder as a child.

I just did a google search and eating non edible things is actually a condition with a name "PICA" . It says "The reasons for pica are not known, but some cases have been linked with iron deficiency, lower weight, lower hemoglobin, pregnancy, nutritional deficiencies, lead poisoning, behavioral problems, and a family history of pica.

INTERESTING!!

I used to like stuffing my mouth with toilet paper but I still get cravings for talcum powder chalk and dry wall. Although I stopped eating them because I know it's unhealthy. My family told me when I was really young I would eat ash aswell
