We want to hear from YOU! - Understanding Palliative Care for Cancer Patients

alisha_share profile image

Palliative care is an incredibly important approach that improves the quality of life for patients with life-threatening illnesses. SHARE is publishing a 2-part series in which Dr. Josef Hannah, Palliative Medical Doctor at Stanford Health Care, and Ilene Kaminsky, patient advocate, MBC endurer, healing circles practitioner, and writer and blogger at cancerbus.com, will address palliative care and how this approach can help during a cancer diagnosis. The first part will focus on defining palliative care and how to access it and the second part will focus on the benefits of palliative care for cancer patients.

We would love to hear all your comments, questions, and concerns. If you have questions you would like answered on palliative care, please submit them via email to: shareprograms@sharecancersupport.org by Wednesday, September 22nd.

Why isn’t palliative care started as a standard of care when a person is initially dx with a life threatening disease such as OVCA rather than waiting until a person is in second line treatments or beyond?

I requested a meeting with our Palliative doc (clinic based) as soon as I was diagnosed with stage 4 OC. I knew I couldn't handle this alone. She had great info. A kind listening style.

When she moved to Florida I transferred to another (hospital based) who has been more involved in solving problems. Meet with her via Telehealth every 2 weeks.

Be proactive and request an appointment now.

When will the series be available to watch?

The series will be available in November! SHARE will advertise where and when it will be posted.

What side effects can palliative care address or help mitigate?
