I was just diagnosed on Jan 22 with stage 1.

What should I expect next week when I see oncologist?

I'm very sorry to hear of your diagnosis but its great that it's at such an early stage. I was diagnosed at stage 3 but I can only tell you about my line of events. Diagnosed in June 2015 then saw gynae oncologist and had hysterectomy and oopherectomy in July. Saw medical oncologist in August and started chemotherapy (6 rounds of taxol/carboplatin)in September. Had a scan before chemotherapy half way through and when it finished. I think everything is a bit scarier before you have a 'plan' in place. Once you know what will happen it gets a little easier to deal with it. Best of luck on your journey

Thank you and yes everything is scary with the unknown. There’s so much information online and some confusing..... ready for a plan so I can take action. I praise God that mine was found early and I will never take for granted that I’m one of the lucky ones. How are you now?

I'm well thanks, I did have a recurrence in 2017 that required further surgery and chemotherapy and to be honest that took all my reserve to recover, but I did recover and everything has been ok since. Due my routine scan next Monday so feeling very nervous about that but please God it'll be good news 🙏

If you were to see an oncologist, this means that a proposed treatment may be in place. It is indeed a blessing and in many ways to have been diagnosed very early. This will hopefully make your treatment and outcomes more promising. I hope everything goes very smoothly for you and you'll soon be reassured.

Hi MendySorry to hear this . I have an idea how you are feeling as I was in your position last September . I had both ovaries and tubes removed due to a large dermoid cyst . It was only when the pathology report came back 6 weeks later in November that I was told I had ovarian cancer Stage 1 . It’s a rare type squamous cell Cancer but my gynae oncologist and the team agreed that surgery had got it all and as the capsule was clear and it hadn’t burst during surgery that they are happy to monitor me closely for 5 years and no need for chemotherapy . They did a full body ct to make sure there was nothing else going on and that was clear thank god . Prior to surgery my CA125 was raised at 70.

It is a shock and until I gain confidence again I will prob think every ache and pain is a recurrence . Hopefully in time that will ease . At the moment surgical menopause is the worse symptom I have but I can deal with that because I know I was lucky to have been caught early.

Do you know what type of cancer it is and have you had both ovaries removed .

Try to keep occupied before your next appt and stay off google !!

Let me know how you get on

Take care

Aisling

No all I was told was stage one. I was in such shock hearing that she might have said something else but I didn’t hear anything else. I was told by 4 drs prior to surgery that I didn’t have cancer. It was mind blowing that I did indeed have it. I have had both ovaries removed. Two years ago I had one removed due to endometriosis mass that had also attached to my bladder.

I’m glad that you’re doing well! I’ll be praying for you to have peace and confidence that you are healed and indeed cancer free! I know all to well that it’s an emotional roller coaster ride!

Hi. Sorry you're here but glad it's been caught early. It matters what kind of OC it is--high grade serous is most common but could be low grade, mucinous etc. So you will have surgery but whether you have chemo or not will depend on which type of OC it is. Also your age makes a difference. If you're young and want to preserve fertility that's different from being postmenopausal. Good luck with everything!
