Lynparza - any advice?

Hello All, I am now on a maitenance drug called Lynparza. I started taking it and the side effect I am experiencing is nausea. I don't want to live on ondansetron. Anyone else successful with other avenues? Switched to another blocker? I'm open to conversations. Thanks for listening and being there. Y

In my case, frequent bouts of nausea went away after a few weeks, which I’ve been told is typical. Been on for just over a year now and I have nausea very rarely...not even once a month.

Hi. Do you live on the Cape? I’m in East Falmouth and go to Dana Farber.

Hi. Yes, I live in West Dennis. I've been treated at Beth Israel n Boston, Plymouth and Needham at various times. This is my 3rd separate diagnosis in 11 years (BRCA1 positive). Currently see an oncologist who practices in both Boston and Needham but had chemo last year in Plymouth for convenience.

I had nausea in beginning two months but gradually declined. I’m on highest dose for a year and half now. I do find if I don’t eat on time that I feel nauseous... not sure if related to product or a figment of my imagination. Once I eat I’m fine. The doctor warned me first three months are worst then body adjusts. They can also try reducing your dose as that may help. So in summary no issues unless I skip or am late to a meal and then it acts as little reminder !!

Hi. The nausea will eventually go away. Are you BRCA positive? I’ve been on Lynparza since April and so grateful for it. There were times I thought I couldn’t stand the fatigue especially but by six months I felt a lot better. The nausea only lasted 2-3 months. Ask about a dose reduction. Also acid reducers help with nausea to some extent. You should feel better soon.

No, I'm not BRCA +. Thank you for responding. I have had anxiety over this nausea.

How long have you been on it? I didn’t experience nausea while on it but it did create fluid in my lung. We caught it early and stopped it for 5 days then started back at a lower dose slowly increasing bi-weekly back to the 600mg. After that no issues. Sometimes your body needs time to adjust to the Lynparza.

I started it 4 days ago. Nausea so bad. I don't want to live on ondansetron. Thank you for responding.

I have been on Lynparza for almost 2 years. Fatigue is definitely a part of this drug. BUT...you can live an active, wonderful life despite the fatigue. Exercising daily is essential. I am not sure what my ONCGYN will say about continuing the drug after 2 years. I do know that this drug is a "miracle drug"...

I had a blood transfusion on niraparib, so they lowered my dose. I was so short of breath and dizzy. These drugs are powerful and need to be monitored. I seem to be doing a little better now on 100 mgs. That new blood will make you feel so much better, you will feel it the same day. Donna good luck

Yes, you should feel better and stronger right after the transfusion. I was on Lynparza for close to 3 years and needed transfusions periodically. As time passes you'll learn to recognize when your hemoglobin is low and get a blood test to check it.

I've been on Lynparza for over a year. In the beginning I was unhappy with the side affects and my doctor lowered the dosage from 300 mg twice a day to 200 mg twice a day. That did the trick. I sometimes get a little queasy but not too often and take zofron. I was also prescribed an antacid to take daily. Also some fatigue, joint pain, hair thinning and neuropathy. I'm sure it's still worth it in the long run. I was told lowering the dosage will not affect its effectiveness. I also work out almost everyday even when a little fatigued. I think it helps as well. I was told I would be on it for two years. Not sure what happens then. I go monthly to have my blood checked as well as my CA-125. They want to make sure they catch anything as soon as possible.

My nausea and tiredness went away after a few weeks. Sometimes I still get a little queasy but weeks go by with nothing. I have been on it 2 years and it is working wonderful. I drink a little gingerbeer if I feel sick.

good luck

Hi. I’ve been on Lynparza for almost two years. The nausea does subside. I do not experience it at all; and haven’t in a long time. I started making sure to take my morning dose with food, and that helped get me off the Zofran within a month or so. The fatigue, on the other hand, has not changed. I am on 300 mg twice a day.
