Hello again! I couldnt remember what the exact cut off was for a normal CA 125. I was able to find the below info on The Mayo Clinics website:

"Results of the CA 125 test are measured in units per milliliter (U/mL). The normal value is less than 35 U/mL. If your CA 125 level is higher than normal, you may have a BENIGN condition, or the test result could mean that you have ovarian, endometrial, peritoneal or fallopian tube cancer."

Having a CA 125 that is in the 70's would seem to me like you may have caught it early and I hope it means its a benign condition. Im so glad to hear you are getting a CT scan to look into it further. When it comes to ovarian cancer better to be sure!!

Have you looked into having genetic counseling done? Has anyone else in your family had ovarian cancer or breast cancer? I know with me since I was rather young at the time of my diagnosis (36 yrs old) they referred me to get genetic counseling done to see if our family had any genetic mutations, specifically the BRACA mutation that may have caused me to get ovarian cancer at such a young age. I was told in the average population of women, 1% of us gets ovarian cancer, however with the BRACA mutation someone is 35% more likely to get ovarian cancer. I just ask because of your age. Also, this mutation is something that can be passed down to our children.

I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Please let me know how your tests turn out 😉

Thank you for your reply,

Unfortunately for me I have had female cancers on both sides of my family, I asked a few years ago if I could get the screening and they said no 😞.

I have also had cell changes on my cervix 4 years go and had too have it burnt away.

Wanting too stay positive but it's not really working

Did any of your relatives with cancer under go genetic testing? Do you have cancers in your family besides breast and ovarian? Typically they want the person diagnosed with the disease to undergo the initial testing. If they test positive for a mutation, then relatives can be tested specifically for that mutation. There are a number of genes beyond BRCA1 and 2 that are now shown to be associated with ovarian cancer. Please if, God forbid, you do end up with a diagnosis of cancer, then when the time comes and you decide to get tested, start out by going to a genetic councilor. They can help evaluate what tests should be considered.

In the meantime, your first priority is to focus on determining whether or not you have cancer. An appointment with a gyn/onc will go a long way to getting answers for you.

One of the hardest things is all the waiting - waiting for doctor appointments, waiting for test results, waiting to see what the next steps are. The folks on this list will be with you every step of the way as you navigate your way to finding answers.

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately I don't think anyone has had the test done.

Cancer has taken everyone on my family while I have been alive.

On my mums side it's been family cancers - grate grandma , and great aunties, both my mum and myself have had cell changes on our cervix before we where 30.

My dads side two of my aunties have had breast cancer that was hormone receptive, my grandad had stomach cancer, my grandma had liver, my great grandma had skin, my great grandad and a great uncle but unsure as too which type....

I asked for testing a few years ago and they said No

Regards

Tora

WOW. If you ARE diagnosed with cancer and with that family history, then surely they won't deny you again. There is a panel of genes that they test for here in the US. I'm not sure what is currently the standard to do in the UK. Sometimes the genetic testing doesn't help much. At the time I had my testing done, they didn't find anything even though on my mom's side of the family all four of her generation died of cancers: 2x breast, Fallopian, and esophageal. I also had 2 breast cancers on my father's side. They thought I would surely test positive for one of the BRCA mutations. Surprise! If I recur again, I will have the panel done to see if some of the newer genes that have been identified may shed some light. With the advancements of targeted therapies and immunotherapies, information about mutations will become more and more helpful in identifying drugs that someone is more likely to respond to.

Sending you the best of luck and hoping you don't have to travel down this path. But if you do, we are here for you.

When my cancer was diagnosed my CA125 4,600! I have gone through 9 rounds of chemotherapy, and my last blood test I have the results for (one hadn't come back yet) it was 20. Anything below 30 is considered the normal range. Chemo isn't fun, but it does save lives, and you can find ways to help deal with the side effects. I wish you well!
