capecitabine question

Hi All

Just wondering, I may be switching to this treatment soon but thought to ask what schedule most of you are on? My oncologist doesn’t want to consider an alternate dosing schedule…

Is it 2 weeks on then off 1 week or

is it 1 week on then 1 week off?

Thanks (I’m from Canada 🇨🇦)

Susie

I'm on one week on, one week off. My onc said that it's just as effective as 2 weeks on, 1 week off, but the side effects are more tolerable

I have also heard about reduced toxicity on this schedule but she won’t consider it 😕

I’ve just begun the regime. Mine is two weeks on, one week off and then a review. I’m on the lowest dose. 1000mg. (I think)

That’s what she wants me to be on as well, she said we would start on lowest dose and be 2 weeks on/1 off

I’m just really worried about side effects, I seem to have rotten luck with those and don’t do well with any of their meds for dealing with side effects

I hear you sista! I get rotten side effect too, and my tips of fingers and fingernail, taste bud and dry mouth, and lots of other things are still not repaired from one week off piqray. I had awful withdrawals from that treatment too. I’m not looking forward to this or any other treatments. But what’s the choice?

2 weeks on, one week off, blood work on day 5 while off. Just started it myself.

I've just finished my first treatment two weeks on and one week off. I am on 5000mg per day split into two doses am and pm. So far no bad side effects just a little fatigued on week off. Good luck with the treatment xx 😁

I was on low dose, 1 week on, 1 off. The NP suggested it, I looked it up, and, surprisingly, the onc. went along with it. The research looked a bit equivocal to me, but that is what the researchers concluded -- no difference in effectiveness but reduced side effects. I didn't have side effects to speak of, but it didn't work for me. I kept thinking that, on that schedule, it would take longer to get the same dosage, so I stayed on it too long. Now I kind of regret not trying the standard schedule. Is that be careful what you wish for?

Sorry to hear it didn’t work for you 🙁, may I ask how long you were on it before it was deemed to be ineffective for you?

I always do at least three cycles before testing. This time, did 6. Mistake, but we kept thinking it was keeping things stable when it wasn't.

Hello from Canada 🇨🇦 I just started capecitabine last week! So far so good👏 just a bit more tired. My oncologist suggested 1 week on 1 week off as it eorks just as well. I also did the blood test to make sure I won’t have severe side effects. Good luck with treatment😀

Hi! Thanks for responding! Can I ask what province you’re in? I’m Ontario maybe if I let my oncologist know of others here she’ll be more receptive!! 🤞

I also did the blood test and it’s all good.

Any HFS yet? I hear that’s the most prevalent symptom.

I’m in Calgary. Glad you had the blood test done! No HFS yet thank goodness. My oncologist gave me an anti inflammatory cream to put on before taking meds. Hopefully it keeps it away🙏

Is the anti inflammatory cream voltaren? I’ve heard it works

Yes but a 10% diclofenec cream my pharmacist made so it’s covered by my insurance.
