hi Irishlass,

I would ask your oncologist about the cough. I seem to have a tendency for coughs with these drugs. Ibrance also gave me a cough and the subsequent PET scan showed a lung inflammation, so I was put on steroids to get rid of it. That might not at all be the reason for your cough but I think it’s best to get your doctor’s view. (I also had a slight cough from Piqray and an inhaler prescribed by my oncologist is helping with that. ) In the meantime, if it’s a wet cough, take an expectorant, otherwise a cough suppressant.

Best wishes,

Helen

Robitussin is doing the trick of stopping the dry cough. I do not want to go the Prednisone route again, as it was very addictive for me several years ago. Thanks, Helen, for your advice. :)

I developed a bronchial cough, likely due to lung inflammation or pneumonitis. My onco stopped the Ibrance and put me on antibiotics, to see if it was bacterial. When that didn’t kick it out, she put me on prednisone, which did work. Then We dose reduced and started Ibrance again. Unfortunately, after seven days, I developed the cough again. So now I’m back on prednisone and next week we will discusss switching to Afinitor. My concern is that it can cause the same side effect but it is a different class of treatment.

Has anyone experienced similar symptoms after changing drugs? What questions should I ask her? Thanks

As I mentioned above, I seem to be ok with Piqray, but I have the same fear about a new drug as you do - I ask myself if I could be prone to lung inflammation. I think my next drug might be Enhertu which is said to have 10% chance of pneumonitis. My onco says he isn’t worried. But like you, I’d also be interested if there is such a thing as being prone to lung inflammation. But I guess we just have to keep going and hope for the best.

How long were you on Ibrance before this happened?

I only on Ibrance for 7 days before the cough started again. Now I’ll be starting Verzenio, which I previously took when on the Monarch trial and did very well on it.

I cough with Ibrance too. It seems I have more mucous and post nasal drip. Ct scan was good. Primary care perscribed prednisone, but it hasn't helped. Going to see an ear, nose and throat doctor in January after taking to my onc.

The only thing that works for me is Robitussin. It stops the cough for about two hours, especially in the middle of the night when the cough usually wakes me up. as well as my partner. THANKS for replying to my question, Mariootsi! :)
