While many of our Healthunlocked members may have a good understanding of how American I health insurance works (or doesn’t) I found this website that offers a global view of the costs of MBC. There are links that lead to organizations that can help with prescription costs.
I hope this is helpful to newly diagnosed members who may feel lost and overwhelmed.
Hi! Had my MRI on Tuesday…and got a call shortly after that radiology has an opening for today. So we’ll see what the MRI showed and possibly a course of action. Sigh…and so it goes ❤️🩹❤️🩹 just glad we are two weeks ahead of the original schedule 🙌🙌
Thank you yes this article is very helpful. Knowing where to turn is critical because navigating the health insurance options can be confusing. Recently I attended the TriageCancer. Org zoom call and will be meeting with my Town’s Medicare Shine Representative soon. These are two organizations which have also been very helpful. I move onto Medicare early next year and am very concerned about having prescriptions and treatments covered. From what I have learned Part A, Part B, Part D and Part G, the Medigap/Supplement plan, are best for MBC patients and not the Medicare Advantage plans advertised so heavily on TV.
Just deluged with advertisements for Medicare Advantage, at the same time as doctors are refusing to accept them and some localities have banned them. They offer too much for too little and fight coverage. I have done pretty well with regular Medicare and a supplemental plan and a Medicare Rx plan. The main problem is that they don't offer vision or dental coverage. I have to pay those out of pocket. On the other hand, MY main problem is mbc and traditional Medicare and AARP United Health care have worked well for that. I have always gotten the CDK4/6 meds free from the pharmaceutical through a patient assistance program.
The hospital I go to has a team in oncology that helps with prescriptions and finds subsidies. They send me the application forms. I don't have to do much on my own, but I usually research costs with my insurer for medications and look at the pharmaceutical's website to see what they offer.
