And I thought I had a bad summer but you have really been through a lot since May. I just reread one of your older posts but I’ve missed why you needed ear surgery? Well I hope it heals quickly and that your intestines improve even more now (I’ve had similar gut symptoms this year but not as intensely as you by the sounds of it). And wishing you the best for your visit with the nephrologist.

A big night out celebrating with your friends sounds like the perfect antidote!

Hi 13.. I had fluid in both my ears n needed a B/L myringotomy my hearing loss was profound where my 2 hearing aides did t help me hear. . I saw my new nephrologist yesterday n loved her bed side manner m she explained everything o have stage 3 b CKD.., but my kidney function tests weren’t S bad S the other drs thought. They were 1.23 1.33. She said you start to worry when the number is 5 or higher. I take Ibrance n Exemestane m my cancer has been stable for year n 7 months. Every thing else falling apart. My gut feeling alittle better.

o got out tonight with my neighbor at the clubhouse and played bingo N

Have a 50th anniversary celebration next week my childhood friends

Hi Dancing. Your post intrigued me. I have only 1 kidney and this year my results have been deteriorating to the point I am now CKD stage 3 as well as MBC. No one has told me my numbers were going down and I assumed they were okay. Well last week I had Zometa and my kidney has dipped off again, my next dose being in December but I don't know if I will have it. Have you been having Zometa, is that why your kidney function has changed. This episode has changed my confidence in my medical team so I am looking at all information now. Regards Susan

Hi Kiwi and Dancing,

As I understand it from my Nephrologist, CKD can be caused by many things, one of which is the kidneys filtering the strong drugs Cancer patients take as well as the the dyes from CT and other scans we have periodically.

I too fluctuate between 3a and 3b and when I asked my doctor if this meant I’d need dialysis, I was told I wasn’t even close to that. If you have access to a nutritionist, I’d make an appointment. One of the other things kidneys have a hard time processing is protein so we need to eat a balanced, nourishing diet that accounts for this. And we need to remember, the failure is chronic and not acute at this stage. 😊

I’m also on zometa infusions every 3-4 months as my metastasis is in the spine. I don’t think my creatinine levels have been worse after a treatment, but I’ll pay attention to that now. All best to you both, KS

HI KS. Thank you very much for your reply. I feel better for having read it, to know that you are also CKD Stage 3 and still having Zometa. Can you tell me : do you have a lower dose over a longer infusion. This seems to be the recommendation. Last week I had 4mgs over 15 minutes but there is lots of research papers that recommend 3.3mg over 30 minutes for CKD 3. I'm going to ask about that before the next infusion. Once again many thanks Susan

So glad it helped. Yes, I always have the slower dosage of zometa over 1/2 hr. It is very common to ask for this. Another thing I forgot to mention is the importance of drinking lots of water and other liquids to flush our kidneys. All the best, Kathleen

I saw my nephrologist yesterday n really liked her she explained everything to me.

My Kidney function test all seem to run 1.36 ..,, 1.33..,, etc. she told me to worry when my number is a 5 or higher. But I have had stones n cysts since I was 23 years old I sm 68. She wants me to see a urologist now. Just to make sure all is well for the stones n a lesion. I also had the gout n hopefully my pcp can treat my gout.

my ears both clogged up with fluid. My hearing g loss was so profound I was reading lips n my both hearing sides were no help. So I had B/L myringotomy tubes placed.
