Travel with a port

Hi Everyone, my wife has a power port on her right chest and a card was issued from the hospital when the ported was inserted.

Can she go through airport security with a port?

Does she need to take off her wig before security screening?

Can you share your experience or anything we need to know in advance before travel?

hi Jackkau. you can go through airport security without issue. they are made of plastic, silicone and rubber.....no metal. and other women on this site have traveled with ports and reported 'no problems'. even if they did, you have your card. but you will be fine.

as for the wig.....hmmmm....i would hope that's not a problem. but i don't know for sure. hopefully someone else on the board will answer??

I searched and found this:

"You will not be interrogated by airport security for wearing a wig or hairpiece. They certainly won’t make you take it off.

If your wig or hair piece has a metal comb or clip in it, the body scanner will detect that you have metal in your hair. This is only for the full-body scanners, not the older metal detectors.

When metal is detected, they will ask you if you have anything in or on your hair. They may pat down your hair in the area where the metal clip or comb is. This pat down will not be hard enough to hurt, but will be enough for them to feel that what’s on your head is no more than a clip or comb.

If your wig or hairpiece does not have any metal attached to it, nothing will be set off on the scanner. "

Hi , I have travelled wearing wig and with a port, no problem ever at airport security .

I had these same concerns my first time traveling, but as others have said, I also have never had an issue with my wig or port going through airport security.

Jackkau, I live is USA and have flown domestically with power port in chest. No questions were ever asked. However, I once flew pre OC and wore a hat, which I had to remove. Now I fly with a wig. Not required to remove wig, and wig had no metal,but TSA did pat the wig a bit. Safe travels and best wishes from New Orleans, Louisiana
