Anxious about going to the doctor

Hello everyone!

I have not posted in such a long time! Updates are that my mom is doing well and breast cancer has not come back in a year :) she is still in dialysis, but overall doing well! I have been quite anxious lately regarding myself now. A few months ago I got this small rash on my areola. It is a very tiny blister spot which is sometimes itchy or flaky, doesn't bother me much, just sometimes get itchy. It has not gone away in a while. I am so scared since I read this could be a sign of BC. My mom just had it last year, so I fear I could have it possibly. I am a hypochondriac so bare with me. I also have severe eczema and acne on my body which has been terrible this year, but i don't know if that could be it. I have been crying thinking about possibly being diagnosed with BC because I am only 22 years old. Overall, my nipple is fine and looks good, it is just that blister on the areola that im afraid could he bad. I am scared of getting bad news. How can I even tell my mom about this? She has so much on her plate.

Hi, first of all so happy your mum is doing well. Secondly if your worried please go get it checked out, don't leave it(I wouldn't tell my mum unless there was something found). IF it is breast cancer then it's better to find it early, I made the mistake of ignoring a lump in my breast and I'm now have mbc, I'm only 31 so can understand how you feel been young.I have a form of eczema too and I find stress and anxiety make it worse, If the Dr says it's nothing to worry about even better! Have you been offered gene testing to see if your mum or yourself carry any cancer genes?

Sending hugs x

hello, yes her oncologist said she was going to do the gene test but i dont think she ever proceeded with it. i will be making my appt monday just in case! :) i have been looking for lumps as well so far but nothing, still def concerned with that little blister which is so random, it just itches when i wear tight bras. Like you said, it is better to check it out so i will! thank you for your response 🥺

Yes get it checked - my sister had inflammatory breast cancer and only got checked because someone told her about it’s symptoms- you are probably fine but get checked for your piece of mind.

i know! i will go soon, I have been looking online and panicking all day. I saw Paget's disease descriptions and I am freaking out. So I am going to have to go for peace of mind. I hope it is nothing but my anxiety tells me otherwise.

I have been diagnosed with suspected Paget's disease as well as Osteoarthritis and Cancer on my hip tumour. Most doctors think it is a cancer tumour but they don't want to do a biopsy because of the location. Not sure how your case relates to Paget's. Anyhow, wishing you well. I am sure you will be fine. We are all here for you.

Cheers, June S.

Oh you poor girl. You are overburdened! Doesn't sound like breast cancer to me but get it looked at so you can have peace of mind. I wouldn't tell your Mom until you know what it is.

Cheers, June S.

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I will definitely only update my mom if it is serious, but right now I will not. I am never relaxed haha :(

Pleased to hear about your mum. Go to your doctor, I know from experience that delay can affect your outcomes if there is anything needing treatment, and anxiety is a real downside of not sorting it out. Everything crossed for you. X

Hi! That is so great to hear your mum is doing much better. First thing is to get your breast checked for peace of mind. Nothing gained by fretting so take that first step. You are really young so it is extremely unlikely to be bc, even if there was a genetic predisposition. The skin conditions will definitely be exacerbated by stress. You have had a lot to worry about with your mum's health so I hope you are also making sure to look after yourself! "If we don't take care of ourselves, we cannot fully take care of others" - you might have already heard of that expression? Take it to heart because it is really true and I wish I had done more for myself in my younger years. And perhaps you are doing some of these things but a therapist, a calming style of yoga focusing on breath, meditation apps, perhaps reiki or something similar. There are a number of modalities available to explore to help us keep our nervous systems reach a calmer state. I say all this because you mention being a hypochondriac, and I have friends with daughters your age who also have high anxiety, so you are not alone. But it is important for your own health to try to find something that you can connect to and make you feel better. It's great you have found this community to help too
