Halfway through 3rd round and Celebrating a call from my *doc informing me that my CA15 has gone down again to 1900. It was up to 8000 previously. CEA is now in “normal” range.
This drug isn’t easy but I am grateful to enter Easter weekend with some good news.
Thankful also for all of you!
*doc made the news today for a donation in his wife’s memory to our cancer center Www.Ktar.com

That is awesome!!! I’m on Xeloda also. I just started my 3rd cycle. I had a bone scan the other day and it shows some improvement at least no progression. Next week I go for my labs hopefully it’s working on my liver. Last set of labs my markers rose and my liver counts hopefully it’s a flare up because it’s working. But who knows. I’ll get my CT next month.
My labs are actually posted even though my appointment isn’t until tomorrow and looks like I am borderline anemic and liver counts not in normal range.... hmmm now I just need to stop google searching Xeloda and anemia
Wow! Great news about the drop in your markers!!! Remember to drink alot alot alot of water, moisturize those hands and feet and only take xeloda after eating something. I too was on xeloda and learned these tricks help alot! Happy Easter weekend! Faith
On Amazon you can buy little socks with ice pad inserts. I used these and then sometimes I just placed my feet on ice packs with a towel in between feet and ice. It cooled them down.
Hi Allison, I'm curious about your CA 15 tumour marker. It seems to be in different units from CA 15-3 which, in Saskatchewan, is given a normal range of "0-30 U/mL"?? I realize that different labs may use different units, or even different measurement tools.
I'm glad that you've had such a dramatic drop! That sounds fabulous!! What is the normal range as you know it?
Nope that is what I am referring to - it has never been below 500 since my diagnosis. My doctor says the highest he ever saw was 100,000. 30 sounds nice and is my goal.
However, Medscape did say this: "The reference range of serum CA 15-3 is less than 30 U/mL. The upper limit of the range varies depending on the laboratory and kit used for the test. Values obtained with different assay kits, methods, or laboratories cannot be used interchangeably."
I'll be curious to find out what the highest value every recorded in Saskatchewan labs was.
At diagnosis it was 3.4 so I was tested again for this again until everything else started to go crazy. In October 2020 it was 5.2, in February 2021 it was 9.9, now it is 3.2
Thank you Allison. Funny how my CA15-3 is considerably lower (before Xeloda was 226 now 76) but my CEA is so much higher (before Xeloda 239 now 85). Maybe because I have brain Mets aside from lung Mets.
My CEA is 9.7. I have prostate cancer. Should I be concerned about the CEA? my doctor told me to get colonoscopy 10 months ago and it came back negative for cancer but I am very nervous about the CEA. I don’t know what I should do. Any thoughts would be appreciated
Thank you for the Easter wishes I actually went to church today for the first time in over a year since I am fully vaccinated- it was all I could do not to cry for joy
