Xeloda and gum problems

Hi there. I've been on Xeloda since October, and I am noticing a very concerning problem with the gum below my lower front teeth. The gum had receded significantly below one and now there is a hole in the gum where the root shows through on its neighbor. I've requested an appointment with an endodontist. Has anyone else had this issue? How was it addressed? Thank you for any info you might have. Andi

Andi, I am also on Xeloda and have one receding gum area. My dentist says it is caused by a tooth that is out of alignment and pushing at the gum...no connection to Xeloda at all. I’ve had one gum transplant that went very well, before MBC. I talked to my oncologist and he said to go ahead with the treatment, no special timing needed. I’ll just let them know when I’ve scheduled it so it will be documented in their records in case anything unusual happens.

Thank you, Elaine. I'm trying to get in to see a periodontist. Maybe it isn't Xeloda, but all my mucosal tissue is dry, tight and tears easily. I've asked my oncologist if I should go to metronomic dosing. Thank you for your reply. Good luck with your treatment! Andi

Hi Andi. I’m sorry to hear about your gum problem. Hoping the periodontist is able to treat it. I am still on metronomic dosing and this will be my sixth month. It worked well for me so far but my oncologist may put me on 2 weeks on and 1 week off soon. He said Xeloda stays in the body for a long time anyway and he said the bone marrow needs to recover. You are always in my prayers🙏Maria

Thank you Maria. I'm glad you are doing well. I think of you often. Will your doctor increase the dose during your 2 "on" weeks? How are your hands and feet? I had a scare Saturday as my feet were so sore I literally could not walk. I took myself off for a couple of days. I'm not sure if I'm going to restart and take the last 4 days or just do a full week and start back.

Much love, Andi

Hi Andi. My skin on my hands feel thin and subject to paper cuts. My feet are a bit red in the soles but they don’t hurt. Funny that while the skin on my hands feel thin, I seem to be getting thick skin or callouses on my big toes. I don’t know if my oncologist will increase the dose if I go 2 weeks on and 1 week off. I feel as though he will keep my dose the same and just give my body a rest. Keep in touch.❤️Maria
