Morning everyone. I have been invited to have my first vaccine and I’m going on Friday to some obscure out of the way Centre. Thing is I haven’t had a conversation with my GP or Oncologist about it but a lovely lady put on here she was advised to have it on her week off. Fortunately it is my week off so I feel a tiny bit happier about that.
Has anyone had an invite to get vaccinated whilst on Ibrance and Letrozole? I’m 71 so in that age group to have one.
Hi Cheryl,I'm not on your combo of treatment, I'm on herceptin and perjeta infusions 3 weekly and letrozole. Last time I spoke with my oncologist he said he's advising all of his patients to go for it, and one can make a good assumption that all of his patients are on various treatments, however, just for your peace of mind is it possible to speak to your oncologist or another within the department?
Best wishes Caroline

Thank you Caroline. It’s impossible to get hold of any of them. Especially at such short notice. Thank you for the link. I will take a look now.Best wishes
Hi Cheryl: I am 63 and on IBRANCE & Faslodex. My oncologist told me to get the COVID vaccine. I had my first Pfizer vaccine 1 week ago & get the second shot on Feb 3rd. I had a sore arm & lower back pain for 24 hours. People tell me the 2nd shot gave them chills, sore muscles & maybe a light fever for 24 hours.
My mom is 88 in a nursing home & she has had both Pfizer shots. She did fine with the first one then had a sore lower back on the 2nd one. She took two Tylenol & was fine.
The notice being too short to notify your medical providers, I wonder whether there is some way you can check the validity of the "obscure" center and which vaccine they are using?
Yes, that was me who had been encouraged to get it on my week off...and others also responded that they had similar instructions...glad the timing is working or you. Stay well!
Thanks Colleen. My 82 year old Aunt has just had it and she has lots of allergies, had a heart attack and has a stent. She told me this morning she had a bit of a temperature and headache but drank plenty of water and felt much better next day. I really appreciate the advice on here. Thank you
Hello. Mum is in the UK, on the same combo as you and is having her vac on friday. It would be her first day on her next cycle but her onc said she could delay starting for a day. Her onc said that if offered then their advice is to take it be it on an off week or not. Mum is 75. Claire x
I'm 71 and it was probably me who said about having it on my week off. But I'm still waiting. They seem a bit slow in my part of West Sussex. Did you get a letter or phone call? Good luck! X
Hi, I had a text come through from NHS. The only appointment I could get is just out of our area so I called my GP this morning to check if I could have it done nearer to home and she said no it’s the only site at the moment. Not a problem. Think most are anxious right now about having it. May be worth checking your emails. It’s so topsy turvy right now. Hope you hear soon. It is my week off thank goodness.
Liverpool seems to have been on the ball with it all. We could have as much testing as we liked for non symptomatic residents before Christmas. We could also have home testing kits. We did four altogether. Every time I went to the hospital I had one done a couple of days later.
Best wishes. My stepdaughter lived in Henfield for years but is now in Liverpool. We followed her here and love it.
Well my sister in Horsham, same PCT has her appointment and is only one year older than me with no health issues, so now I have no idea. But I did write to my gp reminding them of when I need to have it dlso perhaps that will trigger something......
Hello! I am on Ibrance and Faslodex. My onco prefers that I not get the vaccine right now. His reasoning is that there has not been enough testing/study on immune compromised people, so he prefers a wait and see stance for now. He does however want my husband & sons to be vaccinated as soon as possible for an extra layer of protection.
Isn’t it strange that Oncologists have different opinions. I haven’t heard from mine at all. My husband doesn’t want it for the reasons your Oncologist said hold back. He feels it hasn’t been tested enough.
Yes my Aunt did last Saturday and she had a very slight temperature and headache that day but she drank plenty of water and was fine the next day. Our postman’s wife had it also and she had a little pain in her arm and neck. She did have Covid at the beginning of the pandemic.
I’m sure it will. We all seem to be waiting anxiously at the moment. My 93 year old Mum had to call her GP as she hadn’t heard anything and she must have jogged them into checking. She now has her first jab on Saturday.
My GP sent me a link from my Cancer Centre and it’s as reassuring as can be. If you take Chemo in tablet/capsule form you don’t need a week off to have the vaccination. Music to my ears.
Dear Flower FairieBecause I have an autoimmune disease and carry an epipen, I was weighing all the pros and cons and taking my time in deciding to go for the vaccine.. Then, one day, recently, I realized that the way I was living my life was being circumscribed to avoid covid at all costs. I was and am so much more afraid of Covid than I was and am of any reactions I could possibly have to the vaccine. I hope you go for it, it works out for you and you get peace of mind, again. XXX OOO
Thank you. I went for it yesterday. My doctor sent me a link from my Cancer Centre and it stated quite clearly the vaccine wouldn’t interfere with my meds. A big decision but it’s done now. It’s so difficult for us all on here but I hope all of us can get the protection we need. Best wishes and take careCheryl
We really are in this together and we have soft cushions in our sharing place. Now that I have decided to have the vaccine, I am disappointed but not surprised that the warped speed cupboard is empty.
Well it seems that Suzi-Mac & I are the only ones that were told to wait. My onc said when my WBC was more stable then I could get it during my week off of Ibrance. I think she's just being careful because it's so new. So I'll wait until she says okay. But I do hope it's soon.
I’m in the U.K. and had my first Covid vaccine at the end of my week off Ibrance on Saturday afternoon at one of the mass vaccination centres. (I’m 57 but in tier 4 because of Ibrance medication ). Mine was the Oxford Astra Zeneca one . They were doing both ... the Pfizer one am and the Oxford one pm ( they defrost them in huge batches) , just pot luck as to which one you got . Glad to see on the news today that 10 million have now had their first vaccine in the U.K. x
Hi lovely, yes mine was done on mass here in Liverpool. So well organised though. I was on my week off Ibrance so that suited me. My GP did some research before saying have it. I felt a little poorly next day, tired, it of a headache and cold. It soon passed. I didn’t have a choice with mine so it was the Pfizer vaccine. I know plenty that have had the Astra Zeneca one. Glad you are ok with it.Cheryl
Yes very well organised... there were 18 bays around the edges of a huge hall and I was in and out in 10 mins ! I just was a bit shivery in bed that night but ok thereafter . Glad to have had it !Take care! x
Hi Cheryl: I am 63 & had both doses of the Pfizer vaccines 21 days apart. I got them on my week off of IBrance. I had a sore arm where I got the shot. A slight headache from the 2nd dose, which was yesterday, that went away in a few hours. I was expecting worse but, thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to get mine early as my mother is in a nursing home & I am a frequent visitor so they offered me the vaccine. I hope you do well with it! ❤️🙏❤️
That’s great news and not to many side affects. Well done and take care. Best wishes. Cheryl
