Good morning!
I am about to have a Savy Scout implanted in preparation for my lumpectomy on 12/4. It is supposed to limit the amount of healthy tissue that is taken out during surgery. It works, a bit, like the scanners in the grocery store. At the time of the surgery the surgeon has a device that they use to scan the breast to locate the exact area. Pretty amazing!

I am fortunate to be 11 miles from Stanford Hospital, on of the best. The procedure was quick, felt the pain of the lidocaine being injected, but was not too bad. It is a bit sore now. Did have a 2 1/2 hour nap! 🌞

Wow that sounds clever! Well previously I had a segmentectomy and some lymph glands removed + radio and chemo and tamoxifen, and went 26 years in good health! And that was without all today's technology. So Good luck.x

Hi Colleen: Technology continues to be astounding. I believe it is just getting started. I had a full mastectomy plus lymph nodes for stage 4 in January this year. The surgery plus recovery was amazingly easy. Yours will be even better. Wishing you all the best. As you say you are being handled by one of the best.

Our small town hospital only does the old fashion wire..
It was tough going..
I now recommend that friends go to a major city to get the Savy Scout if they can.
I am now participating (and traveling) to a Dana Farber location which has the better advances..

I am still having the j-wire also. So, that is not so easy? Yikes!

The wire was made more difficult because I have nerve damage from a childhood accident and raising my arm was difficult to get the angle they needed. Unfortunately my nerve damaged arm was also the surgical arm. I had a wonderful caring team who made it easier.. I think the wire's placement is sometimes/often a bit of a challenge but not as much as mine was.. You can do this... And please keep us posted as how it went. Perhaps the wire seemed the most difficult part for me because everything else went smoothly.. May it go smoothly for you.. all parts of it.

Thank you, it was in the axilla area targeting a lymph node that had been previously marked because it is cancerous, however, the radiology doctor could not located the marker AT ALL. She said she had never seen this before....EVER. So today I just have a little soreness, not bad at all.
Has anyone had a lumpectomy before, and if so, how was the recovery?

Colleen, Yes I had a lumpectomy a year ago July. In addition to my earlier comments the recovery went well. What I found helpful was to have a pretty boustiere made especially for post surgery. Here they are called "Breast binders" and they work well.

Having easy (and again pretty) nightgowns or pajamas that are sleeveless also helped with getting dressed. I was sleepy a lot, so I allowed this 72 yr. old body to rest as much as it asked for. The fatigue did diminish and vitality returned. I had surgery for endometrial cancer 8 years before and this time I felt like an old pro..
It is important to pamper oneself..

I had never heard of tge Savy Scout either. The j-wire will still be used too. Looking forward to having it done, and OVERWITH!
