Hello,

I don't have experience with either and don't know what you are talking about. Hopefully, someone with knowledge will answer. Blessings, Hannah

Good morning, you could try contacting MacMillian as they have a wealth of knowledge on this subject including good suppliers, scarves etc. Breast Cancer Now also had a video on the topic which you could also find on-line. I’ve not had the need to use them so don’t have the details myself. xx

Hi, I wear a wig. I am very pleased with it. My hairdresser trimmed it to suit my face. I wear it because palbociclib has made my hair very thin and it wasn't very thick to start with. I found my wig on line. Go to ....preloved wigs....there are outlets around the country. I live in Shropshire and my wig came from Scotland. They are second hand and the hairdressers clean etc them before posting. Very reasonable price.....approx. £20 pounds, 22 months ago. Of course this was before covid! Hope it is still happening. Not tried hair mesh integration. Good luck, Fay

When I had chemo for primary bc 4 years ago my hairdresser suggested a company in Banbury called Banbury pastiche. They were fantastic. I booked a consultation (there was a charge for this). They asked me to let them know what wigs I wanted to try but when I walked in the woman went back to the stock room and bought out another pile of boxes. We tried the ones I’d selected and frankly they didn’t suit me. But then we tried the ones she suggested, same price range, but I found one that looked perfect. She also explained how to care for them. The prices were very reasonable and they have a website and at that time if you ordered this way you could return them as long as the labels were still attached.

Getting the VAT taken off the price is a bit complicated but once you’ve done it it’s not too bad the next time. Mail order was cheaper than buying at the salon. I couldn’t use my nhs voucher but the cost at the time was less than the excess on the voucher so I would have had to spend that anyway.

I took the wig to my hairdresser and she removed the excess hair that they all come with which made it look like natural hair.

I ended up with 7 wigs and wore them according to my mood.

I haven’t used the company recently but I think they are worth looking at.

Hello. I was going to invest in one when I started taxol in March but lockdown both made it impossible( and to some extend unnecessary).. and I have not regretted it. I invested in a handful of very nice turbans from Christine Headwear.

When I looked into it I noted that as chemo patient you can ask for VAT to be taken off the price which can help quite a lot with the cost.

I purchased a wig as the free wigs available through the Canadian Cancer Society was shut down due to Covid. I have yet to wear it and I’ve had it for two months. I found it too hot in the summer but as the weather cools it might wear it. I usually just put a scarf or a little cap on that is made of soft bamboo. I think I will just use the wig if I go out somewhere nice and want to look a wee bit more normal. I still haven’t figured out how to draw realistic eyebrows.

I personally haven't used wigs or hair mesh integration. I just shave it all off and wear funky hats. Seems to suit my style better and is a lot less fuss. My favorite is a pink unicorn hat. That said, you need to do what makes you comfortable. In the US, the American Cancer Society will provide one free wig through various outlets and providers. Is there something similar in the UK? Good luck and keep smiling. You are beautiful and amazing with or without hair--just maybe a little colder in the winter. :)
