Isn't this the truth

I do what I am supposed to do but if I am in the supermarket and see a person without a mask (the store clearly has signs that no one is to enter without a mask on), I go right over and politely ask them to either get a mask or leave the store and if they do not get a mask, I am reporting them to the store manager.

It's the selfish people who are having parties with no masks or social distancing. Gov. Cuomo (NY) took the liquor licenses away from several outdoor dining spots that just opened bc they were selling liquor and people stopped social distancing and it was just crowds of people. So all those restaurants can no longer serve alcohol and the ones that can, people are NOT just allowed to order alcohol. They have to be sitting down and ordering dinner also.

All we need is one group of people who are drinking too much alcohol and forgetting what is needed to be done to create another surge in NY. So I am not fearful to speak up if I am in a store and see somebody without a mask. I ask nicely (the first time anyway LOL).

It is certainly food for psychologists what is happening in the US with the mask issue. I truly don't understand the mindset of those refusing to simply wear a mask because it reduces the risk of infection for others as well as yourself. You're braver than I am though in confronting the non-mask people. I haven't seen any, but know they are out there.

Because if I have breast cancer cells in my lungs and feel like I am going to suffocate and I still wear it, then they can put it on. Especially if there is a sign on the door saying No one allowed inside without a mask. And these people in other states saying it is trampling on their civil rights, LOL, let them move to North Korea to learn what NOT having civil rights really means.

Well done I think your really brave to do that, but people should be wearing masks, I'm sure some people just dont realise how dangerous it is or just dont care.

I think that, at a minimum, we should call out people who aren't wearing masks/following guidelines (why they're just "guidelines" in some places, vs. laws (e.g. like public health laws that you have to wear shoes at the deli...) is mysterious to me, but I place too much faith in our government, I guess.).

At the same time, I'll admit that here in TX, I'm afraid to speak out. Too many people are armed, locked-and-loaded, and they tend to be on the other side of that debate. I feel cowardly about this, no doubt, which does trouble me...(folks in other countries probably can't imagine what we deal with here..so many guns, including assault rifles, owned and carried by people who are insane. It's just awful, and constrains my life and "liberty").

Kearnan, If I could move to NYC, or another country next month, I would do it in a heartbeat. At least your elected leaders are trying...mine aren't. I often feel like TX is the canary in the coal mine...Absent active opposition, this is what the entire US will look like soon, since so many corporate and PAC interests prefer our barbaric way of life.

Take care,

Lynn

TX, AZ and FL saw what happened in NY and yet made some very stupid decisions. My friend's were jealous we had Cuomo. He had started letting restaurants in NYC and boros that could put tables on the street and sidewalk as long as there were empty tables in between for social distancing. NO INSIDE DINING. And what happened. In Astoria Queens, the restaurants were serving alcohol without them having to buy food and it became just a mass of blocks of drunk people and no social distancing. Gov. Coumo was so angry that he revoked the liquor license of all those restaurants in Queens so nobody can drink and in NYC, he has told restaurants that they are only allowed to serve alcohol if people are sitting at a table and ordering food. They are not allowed just to drink, that is when people lose their common sense. And the Gov. said if they do not listen, the outdoor dining will end completely. I wont bring up any politics or names, but let's just say I am patiently waiting for November and there will be cheering and car beeping and fireworks when the election is over. You stay safe also.

Quite frankly, if I lived in Texas I might be scared to speak up also LOL...I am just fed up so now it's just anger. I feel badly for anyone named "Karen." It's the new way to describe these idiotic women. They should call them "Ivanka." There are loads of videos on youtube about people getting into fights in stores about wearing a mask. They all say they have medical conditions. Well, the govt. has made it that if you have a medical condition that would make it difficult for you to wear a mask, you do not have to. BUT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A MEDICAL LETTER ON YOU. Even then, I would NOT go into a store and possibly infect others. I would have someone else do my shopping then or online as I do it now when I can. I tip the delivery workers very well bc they are doing jobs most of us would not want.

It's simple. Everyone needs to wear a mask until this virus is under control. I have never lived in a state where people just openly carry guns. When I saw the white nationalists with assault rifles in a State Capital Building, I was just shocked. I wouldn't want to live there.Bless this world and blessings to all. Hannah

You’re brave to confront people...I’d be worried about getting punched or something

These people think they’re ‘cool’ and it’s a way of showing off I think

Unfortunately you can’t argue with ignorance

Same in Nottingham...makes you despair...one of my friends is a doctor on the Covid ward and he said this disease is really nasty...the problem is that the general public haven’t seen what he has and I think some ( not all) really don’t understand the severity

I think we’ll be in lockdown again...I’m off to the swimming pool now to suss it out...hope it’s not busy...if so I’ll leave and probably cancel my membership

Barb xx

in reply toBarbteeth

Think that’s the biggest problem Barb. It’s not in the offenders faces and the attitude is it won’t happen to them.

Hope you get to swim

I did have a swim and the pool was almost empty...only managed 8 lengths but will improve when I get back into it...need pain meds sorting as had to take more breakthrough meds when I got home

This’ll make you smile...went to the pool wearing my swimsuit with a thin dress over it...took a bra but forgot any knickers!!!... I’m losing the plot...my excuse is that it’s been a while since I’ve been swimming...I’ll remember next time!!

I was impressed with their preparation for reopening...changing room lockers were spaced so some weren’t in use and there was hand gel around...no cafe or vending machines for drinks though

It was just nice to be in the water...helped my pain a lot while I was actually moving...hoping it’ll help with strengthening my upper body

I am soooooo.....pleased for you Barb. It will lift your spirits no end. I’m sure your pain will be controlled with other meds. Well done you. As for the knickers. Sod it, whoever looks will get the pleasure heee heee. It did make me 😃. Someone may have got a cheap thrill. You can feel proud of doing something beneficial for your wellbeing.

Take care

They showed on the news today that some older woman (apparently who had just had some kind of kidney surgery) asked a younger 20ish woman who was wearing her mask around her neck to please put it on. The younger lady pushed the lady so hard on the floor of the store (the store's cameras caught it all) that the older woman broke her leg by the way she fell on the floor. They have clear footage of the woman who pushed her so somebody will call.

They think it happens to other people and not them. If NY has another surge of this virus, NY will never recover. We are barely recovering now with how many people lost their jobs and even when they find a vaccine, the fear of this will stick with them.

Oh, I had to go meet with a cardiovascular surgeon for my legs. He had a mask on and walked into the room and came at me with his elbow and I was like What the heck. I am so uncool that I didn't realize knocking elbows is the new shaking of hands. LOL

Today it was announced that Target (which is a big chain of stores in US) announced that they also were now requiring in all stores in all states that people wear a mask.

In NY, now face masks are becoming a "fashion trend." They are already lined up on the streets with the different designs. Gotta love NY!

Right on. Better to report a person than confront them.

Canada just passed a law prohibiting assault weapons. We don't need war weapons on our streets. As it is we have a growing gun problem even with smaller hand guns. Gun violence is getting to be a daily occurrence in some cities. Makes me sad that we have failed to raise people who think this is ok.

Cheers, June S.

Don't say or do anything.

That’s so good of you to speak up. It’s the same here in the UK. I live in a City Centre and the gatherings of stag and hen do’s, plus football fans is truly obscene. The pubs have large screens and the supporters can watch the game outside, get drunk and not social distance. The stupid wedding parties of youngsters just do what they want. No one polices it as they haven’t got the resources and now we have a spike in cases just two mile out of the City Centre. Tourism has also taken off with flights in and out of Liverpool so goodness knows what will happen. Our lockdown was eased up far to soon but not just that public are not respecting others by not wearing a mask. We have seen it all to often here. We have a useless Mayor that makes all the threats about fines and putting a lockdown on certain areas but does absolutely nothing.

Look after yourself and stay away from the idiots.

Have a good weekend.

Thanks Sandra

We call them ‘Bingo wings’ here and I’m developing them also !!..the pain meds need to be increased though...it’s my own fault in a way because I try to ‘manage’ on weak opioids which was ok to start with....I’m thinking that the increased pain is due to progression so I think if I don’t increase pain medication it isn’t true ( not explaining very well)....anyway it’s a mad way of thinking so I’m going to get the heavy duty meds figured out

All the best

Going to the pool without your knickers gave me my laugh for the day!

I know how you feel about increasing to higher amounts of pain meds. I tried to decrease once thinking I was stronger and not needing them so much....not! Didn’t work. But know that you will always need meds for breakthrough pain because they don’t want to give you enough so that you are never in pain. Then you get pretty dopy. They want you to use the extra pain medication when you increase your activity but be very comfortable at your more normal resting state. I hope that makes sense. If I’m going to do something heavy duty, I just take the extra beforehand so I am not hurting so much afterwards.

Keep swimming, but don’t forget the bits and pieces!

Elaine you’re so right...I’m learning now to take the extra meds before the pain increases...the last couple of days I’ve taken one just before I get up and it gets me fairly ok till about 11.00 a.m...I just need a stronger slow release now as I’m on the lowest dose....and yes I’ll pack the knickers next time!!!

Good for you. Why should anyone die because someone is behaving stupidly. It is well documented that we can avoid the virus spiking in our areas with simple things like wearing masks and staying 6 feet apart and washing our hands frequently. It is so easy to do these things. So why is it so hard for some people. We buckle up when we get into our car and not that long ago people said that government shouldn't make us buckle up. Now we just don't think about it and it seems so sensible. Why should people die senselessly. What is needed is strong leadership and rules that are strongly enforced. Hugs Marlene
