At the hospital having my danusomab injection and was told to take my gloves off as not safe? Anyone else?

She said it’s safer to wash your hands so I said I have just gelled my gloves bu no apparently not allowed.

That's a new one to me. I wear gloves every time I go in for my chemo (at a hospital) and nobody has complained. In fact yesterday my oncologist gave me a fresh pair to use after she checked out my fingernails!

In the UK?

no, Portland, Oregon! Let's see what your neighbors have to say about it. :-)

I sort of understand this as you could have had them on a while and she wouldn’t know how long...so it’s just like hands that haven’t been washed...soap and water is far superior to hand gel

Makes sense 👍

Hi Scandia68 - My hospital said the same thing when I went there earlier this week...there's too much cross-contamination with gloves. Made sense to me, too, since when I'm wearing gloves, e.g. shopping, I am definitely less careful overall, knowing that I'll discard them when I'm done.

I'm glad they brought this to my attention...I think I was failing to think about other people who don't wear gloves....

Hi

When I went to the hospital the other day, I was asked to remove my gloves as it was hospital policy.

I did have white cotton gloves on and pointed out it was because I’d had a pompholx eczema flare (possibly due to stress worrying about what turned out to be a false alarm) on the palms of my hands. I was therefore allowed to keep them on for medical reasons.

My local onc made me take clothes off and wash my hands. Blessings Hannah

🤷‍♀️🙈 did they wash your clothes? Lol! We are not allowed to wear gloves due to cross contamination issues...How sad is it that they don’t have these supplies to give to their patients. I’ve only seen 1 older gentleman come in with gloves on...seriously not one pair to spare?...how unprepared we were! Hopefully this a wakeup call...No toilet seat covers and a can of Febreeze in the waiting room bathroom! 😱🤷‍♀️🙈

Thanks for catching that. I can't believe I wrote clothes. It was gloves. I am going to laugh 😂 all day about that. And did I make the mistake or did the phone do it? I have a Google phone and it constantly changes what I write but then sometimes it is me rather than Google who makes the mistake. One time I wrote my daughter that I hope you have a hernia. She wrote back "what the h---". Blessings Hannah

Yes, I was told the same thing by my infusion nurse. She also said that washing your hands with gloves was more harmful because it thins them out. Anyway, I’ve been washing my hands and using sanitizer at the hospital. So far so good. Hope this helps.

Ahhh, thank you all for your posts. Yesterday, when I went to the hospital for my scans, I didn't understand why they gave me a mask when I was wearing a far superior one to what they gave me. Now I understand and will follow their suggestion when I visit my onc on Monday.

Haven't worn gloves yet. Interesting that they had you remove them. There are so many differing opinions every step of the way with this covid thing.

They haven't given me a new mask. I wish they would.

To be honest the gloves do nothing much to protect you unless you have cuts in your skin. Hand washing is more effective than gel.

gloves are not to be worn. - they don't protect you - they don't protect others -
