We just love the Lake District. One of my favourite photos taken on a trip we made. We miss it at the moment but hopefully can visit again soon. It gives me lovely thoughts.

Wishing I was there ! ..we were due to be there in a lodge near Keswick at the start of April but all put on hold ! Where was this taken? x

Calbeck Village. It’s wonderful. A lovely wool shop that produces its own goods and a lovely tea room. Not much more there but it’s beautiful. We hope you can go soon. We go twice a year normally. We stay in a small village called Bagrow. Nothing there. Just a pub. It’s close to Cockermouth. The lakes are just a 2 hour (most) drive from us. Can’t wait to go ourselves. Maybe we can meet up in Keswick for afternoon tea one day😊. Happy days. Take care.

Had great fish n chips in Keswick and enjoyed the local pub — the Dog and Gun? Love all those well behaved dogs in the pubs.

in reply to nstonerocks

We know the Dog and Gun well. Hope you tried Lamb Henry when you stayed. It’s delicious but in reality it’s lamb shank with Cumberland sauce. Glad you have nice memories. Take care Cheryl

Wow, that's just beautiful! I love mountains, trees, flowers, etc., but water is what I'm really all about!!! I do miss nature something awful...even if I were inclined to leave my house in Dallas, there is literally no nice nature in north Texas. Nada. Seriously!!! I'd need to get on a plane for that... :(

Your photo instantly brought an old memory into my mind...When I was a young teenager, my friends and I would hang out in a park in northern NJ and there was a stream that looked very similar with what I called a "waterfall" (it's probably really rapids? I don't know). Anyway, I always found it irresistible and would climb in, and sit on the rocks with the water running over my back and shoulders...I can almost feel it now! I also remember someone in uniform telling me to get out because the water was harmful.....hmmmm....

....But that water looks perfect and natural. Thanks so much for sharing, I love the photos of nature that people post here... :)

It’s such a pity you don’t have beautiful scenery around you. Nature is so wonderful and I feel needs respect. We have noticed more birds singing and plants producing more flowers since lockdown, We have an allotment that we visit a couple of times a week and have noticed the difference in everything. No planes and much less cars has helped. I will keep posting photos in the coming weeks just to make us all smile. We live in a City but we do have our parks and lots of greenery around us. Best of both worlds. Take care and best wishes

It’s so wonderful and seems like another world. You just feel the positive vibes when you visit there. Clean air and beautiful scenery. Autumn is the best for us.

Take care

My uncle lived near Kendal and we used to visit him when I was a little girl...so beautiful...I read that waterfalls are so invigorating because if the negative ions they produce which makes us feel better...makes sense

You’ll go back when this virus thing is over

Water falls are beautiful. Especially Aira Force it’s a beautiful walk through the woods to get to the fall. It’s out of this world. The view over Ullswater is wonderful. We have been there all times of the year. It’s not to much of a trek. I love Kendal. Quaint and pleasurable to visit. Missing it so much now Barb. I’m sure you would understand that as I know you love outdoor life. I’m sure we will be there soon.

Best wishes

Hi Cheryl

I’m still riding out in the woods most days but I don’t do anything else whilst we have this virus situation ..it’s annoying

I know from what I’ve seen on Facebook they’ll all be invading Skegness beaches and the like this weekend just because the PM has relaxed the rules...the mayor has issued a warning that no facilities will be open and that he wants people to stay away to stop bringing the virus to Skegness and spreading it further...people are stupid...really annoys me

Sorry ranting but it’s those people who will make the PM tighten up the rules again and people like us will be denied freedom to visit lovely places like the Lake District ...makes me cross

Barb xx

in reply to Barbteeth

It’s good to rant and I fully understand. Formby beach that’s just 5miles from us was packed out the weekend as well. It’s crazy. Is it people do not understand what PM is saying. I know from watching the news a considerable amount of journalist are questioning his words but common sense tells us what’s safe and what isn’t. As Whuhan have cases again and Singapore are in their second bout you would think staying home or close to home is best.

Take care and glad you are still riding.

Same situations in America! What is wrong with people?

in reply to mariootsi

They have no,sense at all. Seems these, folks feel it won’t happen to them. Such a selfish attitude to take. They should know our stories and see what it is like for us. Best wishes.

I think they only care about themselves. They don’t seem to understand that when they claim all their freedoms they are taking away ours.i feel like this Coronavirus is stealing time I want to spend with my grandchildren and the longer people flout the rules, the longer we will have rules to obey and more time to quarantine. Sigh! Elaine

Hi Elaine

I can’t remember if you’re in the UK but there have apparently been flyers all over about mass gatherings arranged for this weekend by people who claim their freedom rights have been stopped due to the lockdown

One of the places is on the Forest ground in Nottingham near where I live...apparently the police don’t know what to do...many large cities in England are involved

What is wrong with people?

Barb xx

Red71 profile image

I’m in the US and they are doing it here too, with large guns hanging over their shoulders. I’ll never understand the minds of these people! Elaine

in reply to Red71

Worse than here then. Thank goodness there is no guns. Take care x

Lovely picture, thanks for posting. We have walked a lot in the lake district and know Ullswater very well. Oh to be up in the hills although I can't walk as far I used to. Cheers, Fay

in reply to Rotagirl

It’s such a beautiful park Fay. I’m glad you have been there. Lots of flat walking to do as well but we have to get our legs motivated. Best wishes

Cheryl

We used to go Fell Walking. I did Helvellyn. 2000 feet with a sheer drop coming down. Never again. Got the t shirt. That will do. Hubby has bad knees and my body won’t allow it now but we have lovely memories, as you do, and photos to look at. I’m really pleased you like the photo. I have hundreds. It’s also nice to jog others lovely positive memories. Best wishes

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for sharing. I love the Lake District! My husband and I stayed near Lake Windermere some years ago. I would love to go back.

Sophie 💐

Windermere is so pretty but has a huge tourist industry now. Still great to visit. Hope you can get there soon when all this is over...........who knows when? 🙁 take care

Thanks, Cheryl. It looks like international travel is out of the question for now. So we’ll probably have to book a UK break instead. We haven’t figured out what to do for our wedding anniversary yet.

Sophie

in reply to

Difficult to book anything really. We love our breaks away but after having to holidays cancelled we are going to hold fire. Hope you can figure something out for your anniversary. We had ours May 3rd. All we could do was windowsill bay with some booze and a nice meal. Xx🥰

in reply to

Hi Cheryl,

Sorry to hear that. I know what you mean. So many people have had their holidays cancelled, so it's hard to know what to do really. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary for the beginning of May! It sounds like you still had a nice time. My anniversary isn't until 3rd August. We were talking about heading up to Scotland for a few days, but we will probably just stay local. It's hard to plan for anything at the moment, as we don't know what the situation will be like from week to week, let alone a few months from now.

It’s my 40th wedding anniversary this year...we don’t usually bother with them though

Booked a villa in Madeira for the family holiday but doubt that will happen...shame!

Also all the holiday places will be booked up now in UK...I guess it’s not the end of the world just disappointing for all

Barb xx

in reply to Barbteeth

Hi Barb,

Wow! Forty years is a great achievement. I'm sorry to hear that your holiday plans to Madeira have been ruined. I hope you can either get your money back or maybe rebook for another time.

We attended a travel fair at the beginning of March before the lockdown. I'm just glad we didn't book any trips on that day, otherwise we would be disappointed. You're probably right about holiday places being booked up in the UK. I'm sure once the hotels open back up they will soon be fully booked. I still plan to take a week off in August to celebrate, but we will probably just do day trips each day and see how things go. We have a lot to see and do where we live. August will mark our 18th wedding anniversary, so we still have a way to go before we catch you and your husband up.

Such a great reminder of a great trip 28 years ago driving around and hiking the area. Lovely picture. Thanks for sharing.... there is a world beyond blood work, scans & daily meds. 😀

Yes there certainly is and the lakes are just 2hours drive away from us. We are really missing it right now. We always go May and October. October always being the most dramatic scenery month as the Autumn leaves have turned and the colours are beautiful. Who knows when the next time will be but it gives us something to hang on to as far as Mother Nature goes.

Take care

You can’t beat the sound of fresh, running water.

One of the reasons I love the White Mountains of New Hampshire. So many lakes, creeks, waterfalls, water tumbling over huge boulders. I am totally at peace up there

in reply to nstonerocks

Sounds amazing.

I used to love a trek to find a waterfall. Especially one you have never seen - when you come first come across it - wow.
