Last week when I was at the hospital having my ascites drained this drama was going on in the radiology department of my local hospital. A woman had called in to cancel her test for the day first thing in the morning. According to what she told them she was having respiratory as well as nausea issues. Now it is 4 hrs post call and her appt had been cancelled. She calls back and is insisting she is feeling better and wants her appt back. Now this was for a test not a treatment or anything critical. The charge nurse tried telling her not to come in, that her appointment was taken by another. The woman got irate and said she was coming in anyways it was her appointment and she wasn’t going to wait to be rescheduled. Is this crazy in light of what is going on or what? I wonder what they did when she got there? Have to wonder if she has Coronavirus? If not why the heck would anybody be pushing to go to the hospital unless you absolutely have to. I mean these places are sickness central and on a good day you can end up with countless #’s of germs on you that you take home with you. I just don’t understand people! The toilet paper hoarders make me ashamed to be a human being - selfish selfish selfish people only thinking of themselves!!!

I have come to have very low expectations of people in general and though still disappointed, not as much. Some people make wolverines and honey badgers look good.

I felt bad for the receptionist and nurses who were going to have to deal with this nasty lady when she showed up!!! No doubt she will cause a scene and possibly be passing on illness to a large bunch of people.

I am good friends with the ladies who work in this department, I see them more than my family when my ascites are active. I just don’t get some people!

Hi Becca65 -

I agree that the behavior was awful, but I'm going to play devil's advocate here, even though I think the person probably truly was just selfish...

...When I'm scheduled for scans, I'm incredibly stressed. I can imagine a scenario where someone feels nauseous, can't breathe, etc., while freaking out about the machine, going to the hospital, etc. And then they muster the courage but feel like they need to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak. And I say "I can imagine" because, when it comes to scans, I am often "that" patient. High-maintenance (although hopefully not as bad as the person you encountered!), and I sometimes wonder if the staff and other patients are judging me. I do generally bring treats/sweets and thank them profusely for tolerating me. But I did cringe when reading your description, wondering if someone was posting about me on some board! :)

Often people should be judged harshly, the problem is sometimes it's difficult to distinguish them from the ones who really are going through something difficult...Again, I doubt that is the case here, but thought I'd speak up for my fellow seemingly selfish (and probably truly selfish...myself included!) people! :)

Be well,

Lynn

Would you have said you were coming even when they told you your spot has been filled?

My partner went with his guide dog went to food warehouse to get his shopping delivered, the manager at shop said sorry we haven't got any delivery slots at which point another customer came up and said I will take you, your shopping and your guide dog home, suddenly the manager had a slot available and we got our shopping delivered, in these times of selfish people around there are still some lovely, thoughtful and kind people out there
