I am being considered today for surgery because of a breast wound that will not heal. Not sure if surgery will be approved or not. Has anyone with MBC had breast surgery and how long is the healing? I am 79 yrs. old, and otherwise in good health.
Cheers, June S.

I had a simple right mastectomy 2 years ago...I only had one round of pain meds right after surgery. The drain for almost a week was annoying but again no pain...😀
I have double mastectomy and I was at home for 8 weeks. Its was painful but it will get better. After that I have like 4 breast reconstruction and the first 2 was horrible job. So this year I have another one and I am very happy with the plastic surgeon job. I only took like 2 pain killers the last time.
It’s a long time ago since I had my mastectomy but it was painful for several weeks afterwards but I remember riding my horse four weeks later...I’m a bit silly like that and probably shouldn’t have but I was ok
Thanks Barb. I understand taking the pleasure where you can get it. ie: horse riding. Not that I ride but I love watching horse events. Did you have a full recovery or any mobility issues, (arm)?
I had a serious womb issue on my left breast. It slowly grew and seeped. I’m 76,Onc told me if I didn’t have it removed, it would continue to grow and I wouldn’t have enough skin to close. I had it removed 6 months ago along with my left breast.
I had womb care come to the house 3 times to apply cream around suture and show me how to drain the drainage tube which I had for 10 days. I don’t recall pain & the drainage tube was a piece of cake. it was elective surgery, so I’m thrilled with my decision. I’m currently on Xeloda.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have been approved for surgery Jan. 3. I am so thankful that they can do it. The surgeon says it will be simple surgery. Just 25 mins. Out the same day. I will have help at home. Happy holidays to you and everyone here on the forum.
Thanks for asking. Had surgery on Jan. 3rd. Everything went very well. She did take the whole breast plus 4 lymph nodes. She only planned a partial mastectomy. I stayed overnight in the hospital because of low oxygen levels but was home by 11 am. next day.
She is a wonderful surgeon to be sure. I had 42 staples in and minamal to no pain. Good movement in my arm. Bending no problem. The drain came out on the 10th day and staples on Jan. 15th. I do take pain meds anyhow for my hip with the tumour. So I am still really stage 4 but the most active breast cancer is gone. I am feeling fine. Back to normal. I am so pleased with how it all went. The surgeon said keep moving and drink lots of water. I did that and felt good.
Just read your reply regarding surgery by reading your recent post. I can’t began to tell you how thrilled I am you were able to have the ugly open womb removed. Yikes, 42 staples🙉. The surgeon used glue to close me up. I had surgery last June. So far the beast hasn’t shown it’s ugly face on me🙏🏼
