Blow the Whistle

Hello Everyone!

Okay so I did a chest X-ray and CT scan last week and they came back stable (yay!). I had shingles a few months ago and, during that time, it felt like it took great effort to breathe and I would hear a kind of whistle when I breathed. My breathing improved but I still hear the whistle when I breathe deeply and the world around me is quiet. My oncologist listened to my chest and couldn’t hear any wheezing. A previous ct scan did show inflammation in the upper left quadrant of my left lung. Has anyone else experienced this though?

Good afternoon, this is my first time replying to a post but first I gotta say this site and the men and women here have absolutely encouraged me so very much!

I also have the ‘wheezing ‘ sound, it’s better since the weather here has warmed up, but it’s still there and I get short of breath fairly quickly. However, its not nearly as bad as a year ago when I first started treatment.

My oncologist wasn’t sure if I had bronchitis (which I usually get every winter), or if it was cancer coming back into my lungs. I’m not sure why she can’t tell the difference but she’s very knowledgeable and all my other ct’s and tumor markers were down to where they should be. I go back in 2weeks for another ct scan and plan to mention again the wheezing to her.

I have found it helpful to drink LOTS of water and hot tea. A teaspoon of honey was helping some but I found it also was making me feel dizzy. Water seems to be the best help I’ve found so far.

Hope this helps you to know you are definitely NOT alone! Take care and have a great afternoon...wheezing or no wheezing! 😁

Thank you! I’ll definitely try the tea. 🙂

Glad to hear that your recent tests came back that your stable! I used to have some trouble breathing, don't now but for me, it was because I had early stage of pneumonia in left lung. They gave me meds for that.

Both Afinitor and Ibrance can have lung side effects. If those of you with lung/breathing issues are on one of those meds, you need to talk with your oncs immediately, like a phone call today. We're going into a long weekend..... I have what seems to be permanant lung damage from Ibrance and a dear friend died from acute pulmonary collapse when her onc did not know there was a connection between Afinitor and her severe lung problems and kept her on it while she was in the hospital in ICU! Obviously I have a strong bias here, but this may not be as widely known as it should be!

Thanks for that information! I wasn’t aware that lung issues were a side effect with Ibrance. I had probably read it, but it didn’t register at the time as I was likely researching the other side effects (bone pain). Seems there is always something. But having this site and the experiences of people here is very helpful and encouraging! Hope everyone has a great day!

That’s very good to know! Thank you! I’ll definitely ask my oncologist about that.
