In the last 4 weeks I've had 2 viruses which have given me a low grade fever, food poisoning, a broken tooth and a permanent headache. I was expecting my bloods to be poor but they were fine!
I went to have a ct scan on my head today to try to find the cause of the pain. But they had couldn't find a vein for the canular for the contrast. They did the scan without the contrast. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what happened? Was the scan useable? Or did you have to go back?

Sorry just posted about being sick also. Sandra usually knows much about what your question and I see she replied. Feel better.ππ»ππ»πthat scan is fine. Keep us postedπ
I've had a month and a half and been really busy at work, but still ended talking a day's sick leave, only the 2nd since being diagnosed with mbc! Was amazed that my bloods were almost within normal ranges! And my tumour markers dropped another point. But I am worried about the head pain. I've had to wait 5 weeks for an emergency scan and was so disappointed that they couldn't do it properly. Thanks for the reassurance
I rarely get headaches. This is a patch about the size of my palm above my ear. The pain feels as though it's in the bone not the head, if that makes sense. It's not unbearable and paracetamol takes the edge off it, but doesn't get rid of it. No tingling, but I've become very sensitive to loud noises and eyes struggle with screen. Got an appt with optician tomorrow too.
I hadn't though of an ear infection. I've had swollen lymph glands under my jaw too on and off for the last month, so it's possible. I saw my gp but he didn't make a connection. Thank you π
Thank you it has been a bit of a month! Fingers crossed for the scan, the optician was very optimistic that the pain isn't anything serious. I've been doing a lot of moaning hopefully it's all been about nothing ππ
I have the worst veins but if you get the right person they can do it always ask for someone else if they donβt get it in two tries. Sorry your having such a bad time.
Yes is the first time they've given up with a canular it's often a struggle but they've always done it before. Unfortunately this was a different hospital so I didn't know anyone there who I could ask to put the canular in. At my old hospital the oncology nurses always did it for me before I went down to the x-ray dept. The doctor today even tried the inside of my wrist which was painful.
Julie, so sorry you are having such a horrible time. The imagination certainly can get carried away and you think the worst....Chin up as your mum says, although I know it isn't easy. Waiting 5 weeks does not look as if they are worried. Thinking of you, Fayx
Thanks π That's what I kept thinking, though apparently the only way to get a quicker scan was to go to a&e, which the consultant suggested I did when I spoke to him last week! Thankfully, the secretary managed to get me a cancellation at Redditch. But I think as Sandra said it could well be an ear infection and possibly the broken tooth. Chin is definitely in the up position π
Thanks Sandra. Yes I went to the gp looking for reassurance after seeing the oncologist. He didn't mention my ears, just told me I didn't have mumps again (as a child and young woman I was diagnosed with mumps 5 times). He did look in my eyes and said he thought the optic nerve was swollen. So, I have been worried about spread to the brain, and having to waiting 5 weeks for a scan hasn't helped my active imagination! Which is why I was worried when they couldn't get a vein today for the contrast. I don't feel as worried tonight π Thanks
I've just got back from the opticians and he has done additional scans. He's found nothing to indicate any pressure on the eyes caused by abnormality in the brain. Huge relief π Now feeling far more positive. Thanks all for your support! ππ
Itβs good that you are ruling things out. Do you have any springtime allergies? Could it be your sinusβs acting up from that? I have bad allergies and get headaches when the barometer drops or rises because my sinuses are already irritated. Whatever it might be, I hope you find the reason! Elaine
Thanks Elaine, yes I get hay fever at the start of the season and i react to dust amongst other things. It doesn't feel like sinus pain because it's the side of my head directly above my ear, but it could be referred pain. I'm just relieved there is no pressure in my eyes
When I heard you mention swollen glands, I thought probably sinus issues as well. I've had a long term head ache with these. Hopefully something an antibiotic can help.
I have only only arm, due to lyphodemia, and last week I had a blood test one day, and CT scan the next, so the nurse put the canular about 2 inches above my wrist. (The day before a good skilled
chap put the blood test needle in the back of the same hand (I have pronounced hand veins, since
I'm 81 years old.) Both times I requested a most skilled person to do the poking, and they obliged
Yes, I have the same problem, lymphoedema in my left arm - which always had the best veins! Although I've had the LVA operation, and in theory they should be able to use it, I don't want to push my luck.
The inside of my wrist is black, brown and purple with bruising. I normally have a good vein on the inside of my arm between my wrist and elbow but they couldn't find it. Hopefully next time I'll be back in a hospital I know and I can find one of the oncology nurses to do it Trouble is that doctors think they know what they are doing but are never as good as the oncology nurses.
I've got an appt on 28th if the scan has been read. If not I have to wait till around 11th June to see the oncologist. Things don't get rushed out here. I'm not very good at waiting π It's been a bit of a roller coaster the last few months. I was worried it had spread to my lungs and it hadn't, then found a breast lump which is thought to be malignant, and now the headache which will hopefully will just be an over active imagination. π It is a hard journey sometimes
