I recently completed chemo and radiation for breast cancer. After my first chemo tx I started having numbness in my feet. Now they are not only numb, but painful. Anyone else have this, and if so how is it being treated? TIA

I did but after chemo it cleared up. Not right away. It took a while. I did not have it badly. It is common and called neuropathy. You need to be sure your medical team knows you have it. They can help with medication.

I finished chemo on 9/1. How long did it take for your feet to get better. I have been bringing it up at every appointment but the doctor does nothing. I work on my feet for 9 hour shifts full time, & it's gotten to the point where I have to ice my feet every day after work.

I hate to say but it took over a year before it was gone. I didn't have it severe at all though.

I have this...it feels like little needles on the bottom of my feet. I take Gabapentin (prescription) and Alpha LipoicAcid (OTC), Talk to your oncologist about this side affect. The meds help but the pain didn't completely go away especially when I was taking any taxene based chemo and when the weather is hot. No more Jacuzzi's ! My feet have improved since I have been on a targeted therapy but my oncologist recommends that I not go off the meds yet.

I have two people I know who have neuropathy of the feet and to a lesser degree their hands for over two years, due to aggressive chemotherapy,.This can be one of the side effects during, and years after the use of chemotherapy I.V. drugs. , Both say if you take capsacin cream and Icy Hot cream and mix them together you will get relief. When me and my girlfriend who has neuropathy go out dancing she must, must must use this cream combination to be able to dance all night.I also here there is pain relief in using the T.E.N.s unit. This unit has been used many years for relief of other nerve pain in other parts of the body.It interrupts/stops the pain signal from reaching the brain. These units are now available online and in some pharmacies. You may be available to get this treatment if your health care coverage will pay for it. Your Oncologist or your primary care doctor can give you a referral/authorization for the T.E.N.s therapy treatment. These are some natural ways from God's green earth to stop nerve pain. Almost 20 years ago I was in a car accident with two concussions and I was unconscious for 30 minutes. My sciatica pain was severe. My Chiropractic Dr. used this Ten's treatment along with other treatment to fully restore me.I have no pain to this day. He also gave me a smaller unit at no cost to me to use at home. In 2007 I went through aggressive chemo which removed the cartilage from my knee's and,the pain was unbearable. The therapist for my knee pain showed me how to use the unit at home that I received years ago. To this day I use natural supplements to build and keep the cartilage on my knees, but I don't need to use the T.E.N.s unit. I am completely pain free. God has blessed me every day. My glass is not half empty ,or half full. My glass is full full and overflowing abundantly with all of God's grace and mercy Amen.Somebody I need a mop or a sump pump (s-m-i-l-e) Merry Christmas and have a Healthy,Prosperous, and Happy New Year my (sisters/warriors/over-comers) and, your loved ones.God bless you all.

the Lion's Mane mushrooms stimulate nerve growth factor production and helped my Taxol neuropathy quite a bit. I take 2 capsules 3 times a day. I also take vit b12 1000mcg, folic acid 1000mcg, Vit D 5000 and vit b6 which are all needed for nerve regrowth. Also to rebuild myelin (the fats that insulate around nerves, you need Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA/EPA). I take 980 of those(not just fish oil which has just a fraction of DHA/EPA. The Alpha Lipoic mentioned before can help, but take with food as it can cause some stomach upset. I couldn't walk because I couldn't feel my feet in January after 5 Taxol treatments. We had to stop Taxol due to neuropathy. Now I am getting feeling back and can walk fine.
