I had my double mastectomy Wed, the 4th and came home the 5th. Minimal pain, and not much drainage. Has my 1st dressing change on Friday and it doesn't look bad at all. I thought I'd react badly to it; cry, scream, yell, get angry or be mortified but I never felt any of that, instead I felt "hey, that doesn't look too bad". I get pathology results today or tomorrow to see if it's spread. So far, healing well.

I'm glad the surgery went well and that your reaction to the the way it looks was better than you expected. It doesn't look bad at all. I remember when I first woke up from surgery and when the dressings were remove for the first time, I sighed but otherwise felt the same way, it didn't look for bad. Good luck with the pathology report, let us know the results.

Cancer spread to one node, early signs in left breast (thankful I did do the double). Going to have to go through chemo. Oncology team is meeting to decide axillary radiation or surgery to remove the nodes. #IGOTTHIS

I had a mastectomy over the summer and I could not bare to look at myself. I just couldn’t. I remember when my dressings came out and doctor told me I could shower (one week after surgery) I had to turn off the lights, I was so scared. Eventually I mustered up the courage to look at myself and cried. My first thought ‘look what they’ve done to my breasts!’ I cried and cried and then I came back to reality and realized that that was my only option if I wanted to stay alive. I left everything for my surgeon to solve. Unfortunately, had to have chemo so reconstruction is on hold until I finish. Hate the expanders.
