CArdiac Related Oncologic Late Effects) Study

I just received a letter from my cardiology/internist at Northwell Health. They are running a study called The CAROLE (CArdiac Related Oncologic Late Effects) Study (CAROLE).

Interesting--I called to participate.

CAROLE seeks to evaluate the relationship between chest Radiation Therapy and coronary artery disease.

The purpose of CAROLE is to check the heart health of women who received breast cancer treatments in the past and protect them from future heart disease.

Interesting.........I thought that the relationship of radiation and possible heart damage had already been proven.

Greetings SeeSwee6 Thank you for this important breast cancer radiation study that will

evaluate damage to the heart. I know that when I had radiation treatment to my breast

almost 10 years ago, I had a grape fruit sized dark mark on my back, which means the

radiation passed through my breast , and then through healthy tissue in it's path as the

radiation exited through my back, I thank God that I am healthy, but I always wondered

about the long term effects. Now there are targeted therapies like cyber knife, that will stop

or alleviate, greatly the damage radiation can do to healthy tissue. I also pray that all health

insurance companies will pay for this targeted treatment that will spare healthy tissue from

being impacted. I pray all of us in the struggle to eradicate this disease had a wonderful

Thanksgiving. If you are reading this message, give thanks to still be in the land of the

living,and anybody struggling I pray that healing/restoration is on the way. As my nephew

says" I hope everybody had a yummy in my tummy Thanksgiving" Amen!. Pray , Praise , Fight,
