Hi humpanch , how are you holding up? Hoping the best for your mother- please keep us updated on the results.
Hi, I hope she (and you!) don't have to wait too long! Once you have that info, it it does show breast cancer, I hope she will see an oncologist (not just a surgeon!) before going any further with treatment. The oncologist would likely order more tests to learn more of the specifics about the cancer so treatment can best be tailored to its cellular make up. All bc is NOT the same. Know that this group who are living with advanced bc know a lot about both the medical aspects of bc and what it is like to be diagnosed and then treated. It's wonderful that you are actively online getting info! I hope the biopsy will show for certain that there is no cancer, but if that isn't the case, the first weeks are the hardest and we, and Share helpline volunteers, are here to help you both with info and with support and positive stories about living with this crappy cancer. Sending prayers for healing and peace for your family.... Pam
Wise words from PJB Most times biopsies are a big nothing with the exception of the emotional toll that it takes on us. In times like this all one can do is Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. But remember that we are here for you if you need any help or support Best wishes to you and your family
The biopsy report and ultrasound report test her positive for Mucinous Carcinoma grade 2 with T1 N0 M0. Cancer stage 1 A.
My mother is 80 years of age and has diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid.
We are awaiting PET CT scan reports and HER2 and KI 67.
Is it advisable to have surgery done in this case.....
I think you and your mother will probably both feel better once you know what you're dealing with, even if it's cancer. The worst part of the breast cancer experience is the uncertainty as you wait for test results. Once you know what you have (or don't have), you can get to work on taking care of the situation. Your mother is lucky to have you in her corner!
I had to look Mucinous Carcinoma up as I have not heard of it before! What I found suggests it is a rare variant of breast cancer and tends to be non aggressive. Cancer stage IA is an early stage bc. She might want to go to one of the Comprehensive Cancer Centers and see a breast cancer specialist onc since this is a very unusual form of bc! CCC is the highest designation for cancer centers in the US and are listed by state on the website of the National Cancer Institute, an arm of the National Institutes of Health. Treatment decisions are very individual and are best made taking the whole picture of the person's health into account. And what is important to us at different ages may be quite different! I've been living with metastatic breast cancer for over 13 years, and I think about it differently at 71 than I did at 57 when I was first diagnosed with mbc. I hope your mother will be able to get all the info she needs to make decisions that she is at peace with.
Sending healing thoughts, energy and prayers your way! (your being plural!)
