Thinner Hair

Pre-chemo I had thick wavy, curly hair. After chemo, growing back thin, a little wavy. Top head area has some very thin spots. Any suggestions as to how to get thicker hair?

Thanks

Give your hair a chance to come in. How long has it been since chemo? Pre-chemo, had thick, wiry, wavy hair. I had chemo curls (a curly Afro) right after. It took about 9 months for my hair to go back to almost normal. But I the texture is definitely different: thinner, not as wiry. I suggest going "natural" at first, eating hair-healthy foods. I bet there's a list somewhere online. But first be patient and give it a number of months before your hair gets back to where it almost was. I try to remind myself that things will never be exactly the same as they were pre-BC. Even my hair. And that's the least of my worries!

I had the same experience. Pre-chemo, I had more hair than I knew what to do with! My big, wild hair really defined my look. It embarrassed me, but I was kind of proud of it too. Post-chemo, I have thin, limp, gray hair. My oncologist suggested I take biotin, which I do. I think it helps a little, but I'm resigned to never having big hair again. A good haircut helps fill in the blanks (so to speak) and makes the most of what I've got. Most people, however, get their hair back in full, so don't worry yet ...

I have the same problem. My hair is totally different. The texture is different from left to right. Crazy. Yes I'm glad that even have hair, but it's one more thing that comes with BC.

Give your hair a chance to bounce back to its former condition You could see a dermatologist There are dermatologists who do specialize in chemo related side effects Rogaine is suppose to be helpful

My last TAC chemo was January 19. My hair has started...very slowly to grow back. However, my eyebrows and mustache and the stiff little hairs on my chinny chin chin are growing back like wildfire! Ugh! Wish the hair on my head was growing as fast. I've opted to be bald and beautiful...tried a wig, couldn't stand it and sent it back. Caps and scarves are uncomfortable for me, I'm always pulling them down over my ears. I've never been a hat person...so bald it is. I do wear a knitted stocking cap outside when it's cold. My 50th high school reunion is 11 days off. I was hoping to have a bit more hair by then...oh, well. I've mulled over trying to find a hat, but realized hat or bald, I'd still look different.

Thanks for all your suggestions! Patience, Patience, Patience!!
