What's a good doctor and how do you make one?

Imagine waking tomorrow to find a magic lamp by your bed, and the genie tells you that there is only one wish left. You decide to devote it to making good doctors. What kind of people would these good doctors be?

We ask this question often among ourselves—a doctor embarking on his career, an active researcher approaching his peak, and a retired clinician needing geriatric care. What wonderful quality do you look for in a doctor or what qualities do you wish that your doctor possess?

I have had a couple of great doctors, and one horrible doctor. The empathy lacking Dr's. bedside manner was the worst I've ever seen in my life. He was considerably more negative than the T.V. Dr. House (smile). 10 years ago he was the only oncologist in the borough of Brooklyn, N.Y. that was covered by my insurance plan. As soon as I got the opportunity I dropped him like a hot potato (smile). The greatest doctor I have ever had was my surgeon who I know was God sent , without me choosing him .He was/is the top surgeon in his field at Brooklyn Hospital , he was/is a believer in our Creator, and he had the best bedside manner I have ever encountered in any doctor. He prayed over me before each surgery, and when I woke up after surgery he was standing over me with his eyes closed praying over me again. There was a very wide eyed intern standing next to him. Even though my mortality was in question, I knew the statistics were surely not in my favor. This angel doctor said to me do you believe in the God I believe in, and do you believe you will live. I replied yes thinking either here or heaven? (smile). My doctor then said then you will live. Short story unintentionally made long, The horrible doctor mentioned in the very beginning said I had only about a year to live even though he was going to put me through aggressive Chemo treatments.Fast forward to almost 10 years now with no evidence of disease in my body as per( Doctor/God) and the angel doctor Lord/God sent me.I pray that God will give all my sisters in this fight deliverance and that they will encounter the same type of angel doctors that God placed around me.I could not have asked for a better doctor.

If you are bright enough to be a doctor or in medical research do not focus on ways to prolong treatment of the disease-make it your goal to cure people of disease and move on to the next disease or goal to conquer. You are selling yourself, your intelligence, your moral compass and your soul to the idea of a career filled with micro steps to promote more treatment at the cost of really finding a cure.

I would like to add this request. Please while you are researching look for the "cause"! Then you can come up with a vaccine or some other creative approach to keep people from even getting this disease. I pray for this approach so future generations don't ever have to deal with this scary disease.
