Natural therapies worked for me

I joined a SHARE support group in Feb 1993. The women there were wonderful, but horrified that I wouldn't be doing chemo due to MCS. I stated then that "there must be alternatives". When I thought about what I said, I realized I wanted to do 'alternative therapies'. I spent many years finding out about the many other possibilities. I got healthier and healthier but had many tumors - 9 in the breast, 14 AFTER mastectomy. I discovered though, that the dietary changes, dietary supplements, exercise and other things I did, caused the cancer cells to slow in growth to be slower than normal cells.

I began to think that what I did could help the women and men with cancer through the horrid Adverse effects of conventional treatment. I founded Annie Appleseed Project to share all the information I found around these concepts. There are many studies, almost none at Level I, the type of large-scale trials Pharma funds for their drugs.

So what? Many people with cancer now think these ideas have merit. People all over the world are exploring their options using evidence-based studies, articles and concepts.

If you do the math, you can see I am now a 23 year + survivor, and as I often say: "I am not special".

Some things work some of the time for some of the people, with Many Paths to Wellness. Explore along with me from our Facebook page, website, more-or-less monthly e-newsletter (opt-in), YouTube page or Twitter @annieappleseed.

I and my nonprofit welcome your questions and feedback.

Thank you so much for joining out community! We really need people like you to share their experiences so that those facing cancer can learn about various options available to them and to find ways to make conventional treatments more manageable. Can you share some of the things you do to maintain your health since your cancer diagnosis 23 years ago?

I’m considering natural alternatives to chemo. I’ve tried researching this and have only found diet options so far (daily doses of turmeric and broccoli to shrink tumours). Can you please direct me to more information? Huge thanks

Mary_Astell Hi, I'm not Annie, but saw your reply and thought I'd jump in with some info I've found. I'd recommend the book "Breasts, the owners manual" by Dr. Kristi Funk who takes nutrition into consideration with fighting breast cancer. and/or take a look at her website pinklotus.com where you'll find a lot of info, and links to her talking about nutrition on various podcasts, tv shows, etc. I'd also recommend the documentaries code blue, and forks over knives for more info on people curing themselves through diet. Both are on amazon prime. or take a look at forksoverknives.com I'd also highly recommend the movie Heal, which has a lot of information on alternative healing. Chris beat cancer is a great podcast with lots of interviews with doctors that are now talking about how foods can heal. I believe he has a book as well. I'm currently in the middle of watching an 11 part series on cancer called The truth about Cancer. I found it on Gaia tv, which is a channel you can get on amazon or download the app. I've also been looking into the effects of fasting on cancer, there's some info on that on the pink lotus website as well. Basically once your body goes into a fasting state, the cells can go into repair mode, because they are not so busy digesting food. I've been doing intermittent fasting and plant based eating since diagnosis two months ago, and feel more healthy than ever...except for the tumor in my breast of course. And if you are doing chemo, these are all things that may make it a better experience for you as well and improve your immune system.

Thanks for all this useful I go — it’s really good if you to take the time. I’ll follow all this advice. It’s good to play an active part in healing. I’ve just learned how to harvest broccoli seeds — apparently they’re the strongest nutrient-dense superfood to reduce tumour size. So easy to make and they taste great in sandwiches. The smoothies are less appealing but I’m doing them like shots. Good luck with your recovery and thanks again for all your advice.

Very happy to share. Also check out AnnieAppleseed's facebook page, I looked it up after this post and found a lot of great info. Ooh yes, great about the brocolli seeds!! My latest snack is having broccolli sprouts on a slice of whole grain toast with avocado, with a little squeeze of lemon. And I'll even heat up a little tomato and throw on top as well, because tomatoes, once heated, also have anti cancer properties. Mushrooms are fantastic too. Try to do organic if possible. Green tea is wonderful as well! 3 cups a day if you can. I also would very highly recommend the book Journey to Hope by Thomas Hudson. I have come to the conclusion that for the cancer to have started in my body, something must not be working right with my immune system, so I want to know what that is and restore my immune system. Yet all the ways of treating cancer seem to damage the immune system. I understand the focus is to kill the cancer, but there has got to be a better way. If the chemo must happen, then you can at least be doing all these things to restore your immune system. I am just beginning this journey and have been digesting as much info as I can, but my goal is to find a nutritional oncologist. or at the very least, an integrative oncologist who will be open to these ideas, so that may be something you want to think about too.

Mary_Astell Also, I just started learning about Iscador, also known as mistletoe. It's what Suzanne Somers used to treat her cancer instead of chemo. You may want to research that as well. The truth about cancer doc-series I mentioned on Gaia just began talking about that as a treatment option on Episode 8, so I've only just begun learning about it. It's used in Europe, but hasn't been approved here in the US as a treatment method. There's a whole story there, but I'll let you draw your own conclusions:)
