I have been told today that I have tested positive for gonorrhoea. I start treatment tomorrow. But the doctor wants to first take another test to check the results are definitely positive.
I decided to take a test as I’ve recently become sexually active with my current partner. I had no real reason to but I was having routine blood checks and figured why not go for that doing while I was at the hospital. Me and my boyfriend have always been safe: I am on the pill and we use condoms.
I have only had one sexual partner before and he was checked for Chlamydia (and I thought gonorrhoea) before we had unprotected sex. My current partner was shocked by my results and is getting tested himself. He says he had a full STD check after his last sexual relationship and was given the all clear.
I feel a little lost. I don’t want to get back in touch with my ex as he was emotionally abusive and the relationship didn’t end well. But if I have gonorrhoea I will have to tell him as I know he will not think to get checked and could pass this to more people. We split up over six months ago and I’m worried that, if I do have gonorrhoea, it has been left untreated for a long period of time and I could have damaged my body permanently.
