I recently had complications in my private area so went to get tests at the doctors. I had a full screening for STIs to be safe. I have been with the same partner for 7 years. I had a letter confirming I had chlamydia. I confronted him and he told me he had slept with two other women unprotected 3 years ago. Is it possible that this has been in my system for that long or is it more likely it's happened recently?
Thanks

Hi, it's always a really tricky question because we know that Chlamydia can hang around for a long time without showing any symptoms or signs, but we don't actually now how long is the longest time. 3 years ago does sound like a long time, but not impossible. Of course, you have to also consider how strong your relationship is in other ways, and whether if he has done this before, could he do it again. Really tricky to absolutely know. I hope this helps, Dr Webberley
