Telling my car insurer about my recent cardiac arrest.

I went to A&E with chest pains on the 16th of April, where I was whisked to Wythenshawe University Hospital catheter lab, where I arrested and was revived after 8 minutes. A stent and a balloon and I'm fine again - walking, mowing the lawn and light cycling.

Apparently I don't need to inform the DVLA as I don't drive an HGV, although I was told I must inform my insurer. The BHF actually has a list of heart disease-friendly insurers.

I rang my car insurer (Hastings Direct) and they told me as I don't need to inform the DVLA, I don't need to inform them either. They bloke on the phone said there literally isn't anywhere on my policy for him to enter that kind of info, but thanks for ringing.

Not only are Hastings Direct not sympathetic, they don't seem to care at all, which I much prefer!

Has anyone here had a similar outcome? I was expecting to lose my licence and its 10 year no-claims bonus.

I had exactly the same experience after my heart attack. I did inform the DVLA but they told me it was not necessary to have done so. I phoned my insurers and they said it would not affect my policy in any way.

It was as unexpected as it was welcome! Everything I'd read suggested I'd at least take a hit on my premiums.
