One of the side effects of ropinerole (requip in my case) is an allergic reaction featuring in the through and chest, causing the dry cough. I was told to stop taking it because it would eventually cause bigger problems. You will find that you will have to up the dosage sooner oir later to0o keep it working, which will worsen the dry cough problem) I am "free" from rls. Sleep like a log since starting to use 1400-2100mg(2-3 x 700mg capsules of L-argenine in the mornings (no prescription and not to expensive) and 5mg of PAX (generic of valium) at bedtime. Have been sleeping like a log for three months now. You will need a prescription for PAX and beware NEVER to up the dose to more than 10mg. So far for me it wasn't necessary.
Watch out for other meds you take. I , for instance cannot take my cholesterol tabs because it aggrevates my rls. have now started to take them again and so far no reaction.
Hope it helps. Good luck.
I'm sorry, but I really think the answer from Krappie is too idealistic. Yes, you will have to up the dose and I would advise anyone to keep to the lowest dose you can stand. I have been taking Ropinirole for 6 years and am still managing to keep the dosage to 3mg. If I have a really bad episode (and it will vary) I up it for a short time. This usually does the trick. I do have a dry cough but this becomes manageable and you get used to it in time. I wish you the very best of luck as I'm afraid that what suits one does not suit everyone and it is a very miserable condition to try and cope with. Just keep tweaking and you will find what suits you the best.
I have been taking Ropinirole 2 mg for the last 4 years and, thankfully, have had no side effects, or at least none that I have been able to attribute to it.
hi, i have taken requip myself, and i had the nausea with it, got a little used to it in time, but it never really went, but i didnt have a sore throat or a cough with it either. I didnt manage to stay on it for 6 years, i think in my case it was nearer 2, we are all different with our meds, worse luck
Thanks for taking the time to reply, at least i know I am not alone in these side effects
