Another wasted appointment

Hi Everyone,

Had my appointment today at the doctors, I wasn’t even booked in to see a Dr in the end but actually a nurse.

She told me she was checking my bloods for my yearly diabetic review which was news to me as I thought I was there to talk about my iron levels etc.

She informed me that everything was fine and my iron levels were in the normal range of 23 - 300ng. No TSAT was even done.

Asked about Atorvastatin and coming off them as I believe they could be making my legs worse but she said I would need to talk to a doctor, I also mentioned that I need a higher pain relief ( currently taking Co codamol 30/500) and could she please send a message to my doctor as I am in terrible pain trying to come off Ropinirole with hardly any medication to help. The nurse advised to book an appointment with my doctor who is young and more up to date with things which I tried to do but was told by the receptionist that they don’t have any appointments available with him so I now have an appointment with a pharmacist to discuss coming off my medication.

When I got home I just was so upset and in pain so my husband rang the doctors and got a phone appointment for tomorrow to discuss my medication etc, only I have to be available between 6.45am and 8.30am. My husband tried telling them that I have M.E and could I have a later time but that was all they could offer.

To say that I am absolutely annoyed is an understatement, going to send a email tomorrow to the solicitors.

I wish I could say I was surprised to hear this. But I'm not. They are so out of line.You have been so poorly treated.

I do hope the nurse bothers to read the Iron Therapy page on RLS-UK website which sets out that serum ferritin needs to be much higher for RLS patients.

I am so sorry for your and know exactly how you feel as I was in the same position and ended up back at home in tears of anger and frustration. I have had a succession of useless GPs who no longer have any empathy for the suffering of patients and just don't seem to care. Thinking of you and hope you get some help to-morrow.

I feel for you..I know exactly how you feel. I recently had a similar experience with a sucession of unhelpful e-consults and telephone appointments. However the good news is that now I am dealing with the practice pharmacist who is excellent. I am changing from gabapentin to pregablin. He does not get involved in opinion or lack of knowledge like the doctors i have consulted but just sticks to the facts and the NICE guidelines. So, just saying, maybe a pharamacist appt isn't such a bad choice.I hope you have a better consultation today
